Bizi Transport
Blackfalds
Casual / On-Call | Project-Based
Been There, Done That? We Need You.
Bizi Transport is looking for a highly experienced Field Driver Trainer to work with Class 1 drivers transitioning from onboarding into some of our most challenging field operations.
We're not looking for someone to teach people how to drive a truck.
We're looking for someone who knows Alberta oilfield trucking.
Lease roads. Mud. Snow. Chains. Radio-controlled roads. Remote locations. Tight sites. Super Bs. Long days. Changing conditions. And knowing when something doesn't look right before it becomes a problem.
Many of the drivers coming into the industry today have good potential but haven't had the opportunity to build the depth of field experience that traditionally came with years in the oilfield. We want an experienced hand who can help bridge that gap.
This could be an excellent opportunity for a retired or semi-retired professional driver who isn't looking for another full-time job but isn't quite ready to hang up the boots either.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll work with drivers after they've completed their initial onboarding and road-test process, helping transition them into real field operations.
Your work may include:
- Coaching drivers on active oilfield projects, primarily frac sand operations
- Working alongside drivers in remote and off-road environments
- Teaching practical lease and resource-road driving techniques
- Coaching proper radio communication and kilometre calling
- Teaching and evaluating chaining techniques
- Helping drivers navigate mud, snow, steep grades, narrow roads and changing terrain
- Coaching drivers on safe Super B operation in challenging conditions
- Helping drivers understand site positioning, backing, loading and unloading environments
- Reinforcing good judgment, trip planning and situational awareness
- Identifying where a driver needs additional coaching before working independently
- Supporting drivers through unfamiliar or particularly challenging projects
- Reinforcing Bizi and customer safety expectations in the field
You'll work closely with our Blackfalds-based Driver Trainer, who handles the initial training and evaluation process, and our Field Supervisors, who oversee active field operations.
Think of this role as the bridge between “You've passed onboarding” and “You're ready to handle this work independently.”
Who We're Looking For
Experience matters enormously for this position.
We're looking for someone with substantial experience in Alberta oilfield and off-road Class 1 operations who understands the realities of the work and can confidently pass that knowledge on to others.
Ideally, you have extensive experience with:
- Alberta oilfield trucking
- Frac sand operations
- Super B combinations
- Lease and resource roads
- Off-road and remote operations
- Chaining and extreme winter conditions
- Mud and difficult terrain
- Radio-controlled roads and kilometre calling
- Oilfield/customer sites
- Driver coaching, mentoring or training
- Troubleshooting difficult situations in the field
Formal training experience is an asset, but decades of practical field experience and the ability to teach what you know are more important to us. You should be patient enough to work with developing drivers, confident enough to correct unsafe practices, and experienced enough to recognize when someone simply isn't ready for a particular piece of work.
This Is NOT a Regular Full-Time Position
Flexibility is a major part of this role.
This is casual, on-call, project-based work. There may be periods when we need you extensively and periods when we don't need you at all.
You may be asked to support a project for several days or weeks, take time off when things slow down, and return when another operational need arises.
We're looking for someone who genuinely likes that arrangement.
You should be comfortable with:
- Working on an as-needed basis
- Taking projects when available
- Periods with little or no work
- Short-notice assignments when you're available
- Working days or nights depending on the operation
- Staying away from home when projects require it
- Travelling throughout Alberta and potentially beyond
- Working outdoors in real oilfield conditions
This role would be particularly well suited to someone retired or semi-retired who wants to stay involved in the industry without committing to a regular full time schedule. Compensation & Equipment
- $400/day
- Company pickup provided while working
- Company fuel card provided for authorized business travel
- Project-based/on-call scheduling
- Travel throughout operational areas as required
- Required PPE and other work-related equipment provided as applicable
What You'll Need
- Valid Class 1 Driver's Licence
- Extensive Class 1 driving experience
- Significant Alberta oilfield/off-road experience
- Strong knowledge of safe heavy-truck operation in difficult terrain
- Current and reasonable driver's abstract
- Required oilfield safety certifications, or willingness to obtain them
- Strong communication and coaching skills
- Professional approach when working with drivers and customers
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field
Why We're Hiring This Role The trucking industry is changing. Some of the industry's most experienced oilfield drivers are retiring or stepping away from full-time work, and with them goes decades of practical knowledge that simply can't be learned in a classroom.
At the same time, we're seeing capable drivers entering specialized oilfield work who have the right foundation and potential, but haven't yet had years of exposure to the challenging off-road conditions that build that experience.
We want to bridge that gap.
Rather than expecting drivers to learn the toughest parts of oilfield trucking on their own, we want to put experienced people beside them in the field, sharing the knowledge, judgment, and practical skills that only come from having done the work.
That's why we're looking for someone who's spent a career doing this work and would enjoy helping develop the next generation of Bizi drivers.
If you've spent your career in Alberta oilfield trucking, know exactly what we mean when we talk about chains, lease roads, mud and kilometre calling, and you're looking for flexible work that lets you put that experience to use, we'd like to talk to you.
Pay: From $400.00 per day
