Position Overview The Field Service Technician (L1) provides hands-on, on-site support for customers and internal infrastructure across Hosted Advantage’s colocation and managed services setting. This role performs basic break/fix, installs, and physical troubleshooting in data centers and customer sites, and acts as a critical extension of the Service Desk and Infrastructure teams for tasks that require physical presence.
Key Responsibilities
On-site Service & Dispatch
- Assist the Build and Deployment teams with the implementation of new infrastructure, including server, network, and storage deployments.
- Support Proof of Concept (POC) activities by assisting with hardware installation, configuration, connectivity testing, and validation of deployed solutions.
- Co-ordinate with project, service-desk, infrastructure and build teams to ensure deployment activities are completed according to project timelines and technical requirements.
- Perform pre-deployment and post-deployment validation checks to confirm hardware readiness, connectivity, and operational status.
- Provide hands-on support during infrastructure refreshes, migrations, outages and rollout projects, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting of completed work.
- Troubleshoot and escalate deployment-related and other issues reported by customers as required to minimize project delays and service impact.
- Assist in imaging,
asset preparation, and inventory management for deployment and POC environments.
Customer Experience
- Communicate clearly with customers and internal stakeholders during on-site work and escalations.
- Maintain professionalism in customer environments and ensure work areas are left clean and secure.
- Escalate safety concerns, access issues, or scope changes immediately.
Documentation & Quality
- Update runbooks, rack elevations, cable maps, and asset records as directed.
- Capture photos and serial numbers to support inventory control and supportability.
- Follow change management guidance for any task that could impact production services.
Qualifications
Required:
- 1–3+ years of hands-on IT or technical field support experience (Data center, MSP, or enterprise).
- Comfortable working around servers, storage, and network hardware; ability to safely lift and handle equipment.
- Strong customer service and communication skills; disciplined ticketing and documentation habits.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally to customer sites and data centers.
Preferred:
- Experience in colocation environments and basic network patching/cross-connect work.
- Familiarity with ITSM tools and structured incident/change processes.
- Entry-level certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+/Network+ or equivalent).
