Position Summary The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the travel agency, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, effective cash management, and compliance with accounting standards and company policies. This role partners closely with senior management and operational teams to provide financial insight, support business decisions, and maintain the overall financial health of the organization.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
· 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably including management experience.
· Experience in travel, tourism, hospitality, or agency environment is strongly preferred.
· Robust knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
· Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, and financial analysis.
· Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting/ERP systems.
· Strong attention to detail and analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent communication and organizational skills.
· Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
· Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
· Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
· Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
· Monitor revenue,
expenses, profitability, and cash flow.
· Provide management with meaningful financial analysis and recommendations.
· Develop and maintain financial models, reporting tools, and key performance indicators.
Travel Industry Accounting
· Oversee accounting for travel bookings, commissions, service fees, supplier payments, refunds, cancellations, and customer deposits.
· Oversee reconciliation of booking and accounting systems to ensure revenue and commission accuracy.
· Monitor accounts receivable from customers, corporate accounts, and other partners.
· Oversee accounts payable and ensure timely payment of travel suppliers and vendors.
· Review agency commissions and supplier statements for accuracy.
· Monitor deferred revenue, customer credits, deposits, and other travel-specific balance sheet accounts.
Cash & Treasury Management
· Manage daily cash position and cash-flow forecasting.
· Oversee bank reconciliations and credit-card reconciliations.
· Monitor payment processing, merchant accounts, and chargebacks.
· Establish appropriate controls over company funds and payment approvals.
· Identify opportunities to improve working capital and cash management.
· Manage employee payroll and oversee agent payroll
Budgeting & Business Planning
· Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
· Analyze actual results against budget and prior periods.
· Identify trends, risks, and opportunities affecting profitability.
· Support management in evaluating new products, supplier agreements, locations, and other business initiatives.
Compliance & Controls
· Ensure compliance with applicable accounting, tax, and regulatory requirements.
· Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, and other professional advisors.
· Maintain strong financial controls and accounting procedures.
· Ensure appropriate documentation and authorization of financial transactions.
· Support preparation for annual audits and tax filings.
Leadership
· Supervise and mentor accounting and finance staff.
· Establish clear procedures, deadlines, and performance expectations.
· Review work for accuracy and completeness.
· Collaborate with senior leadership to resolve financial issues.
· Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Experience
· Experience with travel agency accounting and booking systems.
· Knowledge of travel supplier commission structures and industry settlement processes.
· Experience managing customer deposits, refunds, chargebacks, and credit-card settlements.
· CPA designation or progress toward a CPA is an asset.
· Experience implementing or improving accounting systems and financial processes.
