About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Financial Controller to join its finance leadership team in the Sarnia, Ontario area. This is a senior accounting opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership of a complex financial environment, leading an experienced team, and ensuring senior leadership has reliable financial information to guide important business decisions.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer , the Financial Controller will have responsibility for internal financial reporting and provide oversight and direction to the accounting team. Working across multiple business divisions, this individual will bring consistency and discipline to financial operations while maintaining a strong understanding of the details behind the numbers.

A key part of the mandate will be developing the capabilities of the existing finance team and creating an environment of accountability, knowledge sharing, and strong execution. The Financial Controller will also work closely with the CFO when financial variances or unusual accounting matters arise, providing the analysis and judgment required to understand what is happening and determine the appropriate course of action.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee the preparation of monthly and year-end financial reporting across multiple business divisions.
- Ensure accounting transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with applicable accounting standards and policies.
- Provide oversight of revenue accounting, accruals, accounts payable, payroll-related activities, and other key accounting processes.
- Review financial results for unusual activity, variances, and emerging issues requiring further analysis.
- Monitor capital expenditures against approved budgets and support related financial oversight.
- Assist with cash flow monitoring and reporting in partnership with the CFO.




- Maintain the integrity and completeness of financial data across key systems.
- Coordinate year-end audit requirements and maintain an setting that supports ongoing audit readiness.
- Provide timely financial information and support to managers and other internal stakeholders.
- Maintain appropriate financial controls and documentation to safeguard the accuracy and reliability of financial information.

Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will bring significant accounting experience along with the maturity and confidence to lead others in a complex organization.

- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years of supervisory or management responsibility.
- Accounting degree required; CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Previous experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, or comparable senior accounting professional.
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and financial controls.
- Demonstrated success managing and developing accounting professionals.
- Strong financial systems capabilities and advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify issues while maintaining a broader perspective on the business.
- Highly organized with the ability to establish priorities and deliver accurately against deadlines.
- Calm and steady under pressure, with sound judgment and a high degree of integrity.
- Comfortable working directly within the financial details when necessary rather than managing solely from a distance.
- Clear and confident communicator who can build productive relationships with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

This position is part of an ongoing evolution of the organization’s finance leadership structure. Compensation Range The anticipated base salary range is $100,000 - $120,000 , commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
