Reporting to the Supervisor, Food and Nutrition Services, the Food Services Coordinator provides day-to-day coordination and operational support for Community Care Durham’s Food Services programs. The Coordinator assigns and monitors staff and volunteer activities to support effective and consistent program delivery, while overseeing food ordering, inventory, supplies, food safety processes, and Mobile Food Market operations.
The Coordinator supports the efficient delivery of programs in accordance with Community Care Durham’s policies, procedures, and food safety standards, while supporting the ongoing development and continuous improvement of Food Services.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coordinates and oversees the day-to-day activities of Food Services programs, including Mobile Food Market, Community Food Box, and Meals on Wheels within established procedures;
- Plans and operates Mobile Food Markets, including market inventory, setup, transportation, supplies, and equipment required;
- Provides exceptional customer service to all clients participating in Food Services programs;
- Assigns, monitors, and follows up on the daily activities of program staff and volunteers to support effective program delivery;
- Coordinates food ordering, allocation, and distribution for the Mobile Food Market, Community Food Box, and Meal Kit programs.
- Prepares weekly produce orders and accompanying recipes, coordinates inventory, applies First In First Out (FIFO) practices, monitors stock levels, and analyzes sales and demand information to support forecasting and allocation;
- Ensures food safety, health and safety, and emergency procedures are followed and appropriately documented across the programs;
- Monitors food handling practices and required documentation, including temperature, cleaning, and sanitation records;
- Reconciles credit card statements and vendor invoices, submits documentation of payment, enters sales information into database (AlayaCare);
- Supports the implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of Community Food Programs, including recipes, food literacy content, program resources, and service delivery processes;
- Works collaboratively with Program Associates, Program Supervisor, and other team members to review program information, identify opportunities for improvement, and support departmental goals and MSAA targets;
- Participates in health and safety inspections and ensures compliance with established procedures.
- Provides back up to Program Associates in all Food Services programs as required;
- Participates in departmental meetings, planning, and development of effective procedures;
- Completes other duties as required.
Qualifications required:
- Post-secondary education in Food Services, Food Service Management, Culinary Arts,
Social Services or a related field is preferred; a combination of education and experience will also be considered.
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a similar role in food services or community supports
- Protected Food Handling Certificate is required
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs. (bona fide occupational requirement)
- Valid “G” or “G2” Ontario driver’s license with access to a safe, reliable and insured vehicle
- Proven knowledge of community support services principles and practices
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Intermediate computer skills, including experience with database entry
- Understanding of the needs of vulnerable populations, including older adults, individuals with mental health challenges, and individuals with disabilities
- Ability to build and foster working partnerships with community stakeholders
- Sensitivity to the needs of the vulnerable population with disabilities, including challenges in cognition
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check completed within the past 6 months.
- Must work in a safe manner and promote the health and safety of all staff, volunteers, clients and the community as outlined within CCD policies.
Compensation: Hourly base rate of $26.58; with an additional 5% in lieu of benefits, and 6% vacation pay Work Location: Whitby, ON
*Subject to change, CCD staff may be required to work anywhere throughout the Durham Region
Hours of Work: 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday (35 hours/per week). This is a temporary full-time role for 12-months.
