Fello is a strategy and marketing agency working with technical and highly regulated companies. We are adding a freelance B2B strategist to our bench on a project basis, scoped per engagement.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You come in when a company's story is not carrying its weight. Usually they are raising capital, selling into a demanding buyer, or both. The problem is rarely the business itself. The problem is that nobody can explain the business in the room in a way that survives scrutiny.
Your job is to find the real story, build the message system that carries it, and hand over language the client can actually use. You own a workstream end to end and present your own work to client leadership.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Run discovery interviews with founders and executives, conducted individually rather than as a group, and reconcile the versions that do not match
Define what the company stands for and articulate why its market position is structural rather than incidental
Build the evidence hierarchy: determine which credibility markers carry weight and which ones should lead for each audience
Develop a single core narrative and adapt it per audience rather than writing separate stories
Write objection sets with supporting proof, addressing the specific concerns that have already cost the client a deal or an investment
Translate dense technical and regulatory language so a generalist can follow it without making it inaccurate to a subject matter expert
Deliver a live narrative walkthrough to client leadership,
presenting both the work and the reasoning behind it
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for range rather than a single background. Solid candidates bring at least two of the following four, with enough breadth to collaborate credibly on the rest.
Messaging craft. Agency-grade positioning, message architecture, and narrative structure. You have built the underlying system, not just the copy.
Capital markets fluency. You have worked inside a fundraise on either side of the table and understand what actually causes a promising meeting to stall.
Technical or regulated industry comfort. Experience in deep tech, defense, energy, life sciences, medical devices, or similar. Dense procurement and engineering vocabulary should not slow you down.
Interviewing and writing ability. You can draw a coherent story out of a technical founder who has never told it well, and write it cleanly enough that it holds up when forwarded to a stranger.
This role is not a fit for candidates whose focus is content calendars, SEO, social media strategy, or brand voice guidelines.
