Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated, organized, and hands-on Gas Station & Convenience Store Manager to oversee the setup, opening, and ongoing operation of our new gas station and convenience store development in Matheson, Ontario.
The successful candidate will be involved immediately in preparing the business for opening and will take ownership of establishing the systems, processes, inventory, staffing, and day-to-day procedures required for a successful launch.
Prior to opening, the Manager will work closely with ownership, suppliers, vendors, contractors, and other partners to coordinate operational setup. This will include establishing supplier relationships, placing initial orders, setting up inventory and merchandising, assisting with recruitment and training, developing procedures, organizing required documentation, and ensuring the convenience store is fully prepared for opening.
Once operational, the Manager will be responsible for the overall performance and daily operation of the gas station and convenience store, including staff supervision, scheduling, inventory control, ordering, cash management, customer service, merchandising, compliance, and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient facility.
We are looking for someone who takes initiative, is comfortable making decisions, and can take ownership of the operation rather than waiting for day-to-day direction.
Pre-Opening & Operational Setup
- Coordinate the operational setup of the gas station and convenience store
- Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers
- Set up supplier accounts and coordinate product availability
- Determine initial inventory requirements and place opening orders
- Coordinate product receiving, pricing, stocking, and merchandising
- Assist with the setup of POS, inventory, cash-handling, and operational systems
- Develop store opening, closing, cash-handling, inventory, and customer service procedures
- Assist with establishing product pricing and merchandising standards
- Coordinate equipment, supplies, uniforms, signage, and other operational requirements
- Assist with recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and training of employees
- Develop employee schedules and staffing plans for opening
- Organize employee files, training records, and required documentation
- Coordinate vendor deliveries and service arrangements
- Ensure required permits, inspections, licences, and compliance documentation are organized prior to opening
- Assist with health and safety policies, training, and documentation
- Identify operational needs or potential issues and proactively work toward solutions
- Ensure the store is fully stocked, staffed, organized, and operationally ready for opening day
Management Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operation of the gas station and convenience store
- Supervise, support, and provide direction to employees
- Prepare and manage employee schedules
- Recruit, train, onboard, and evaluate staff
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels and coordinate coverage as required
- Monitor employee performance and address operational or customer service concerns
- Manage inventory levels and ensure products are consistently available
- Complete and oversee regular product and supply ordering
- Monitor inventory movement, shortages, waste, damages, and shrinkage
- Maintain relationships with suppliers and coordinate deliveries
- Ensure products are properly priced, displayed, rotated, and merchandised
- Monitor sales trends and adjust ordering and merchandising accordingly
- Oversee cash handling, deposits, till reconciliation, and daily reporting
- Review invoices, purchase orders, and supplier documentation
- Assist with accounts payable, bookkeeping, payroll information, and administrative reporting
- Maintain accurate operational and financial records
- Ensure excellent customer service standards are maintained
- Respond to customer concerns and resolve issues professionally
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and presentation throughout the property
- Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety requirements, fuel regulations, and other applicable legislation
- Coordinate maintenance and service requirements for store and fuel-related equipment
- Communicate regularly with ownership regarding operations, staffing, sales, inventory, and any issues requiring attention
- Look for opportunities to improve sales, efficiency, customer experience, and overall profitability
Qualifications
- Previous management, supervisory, retail, convenience store, gas station, or similar operational experience preferred
- Solid leadership skills and the ability to manage and motivate a team
- Experience with inventory management, ordering, and supplier relationships
- Merchandising and retail product experience considered a strong asset
- Experience with QuickBooks, bookkeeping, payroll, or accounts payable/receivable considered an asset
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable working independently and taking initiative
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and employee training considered an asset
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
- Ability to handle confidential business and employee information appropriately
- Comfortable working with vendors, suppliers, contractors, employees, and customers
- Willingness to take a hands-on approach and assist wherever required during setup and ongoing operations

They are proactive, dependable, organized, and capable of seeing what needs to be done and taking the initiative to make it happen. This role will have significant responsibility during the setup and opening of a brand-new operation. We are looking for someone who is excited by the opportunity to help build the store's systems, team, inventory, and procedures from the ground up and then take responsibility for successfully managing the operation once open.
Pay: $26.00-$32.00 per hour
