The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking a Geomatics Data Coordinator to join the NWT Centre for Geomatics in Yellowknife.
This position helps make geographic information easier to discover, share and use across the GNWT. Working at the intersection of geomatics, data management and technology, you will support the systems, standards and partnerships that allow spatial information to contribute to better planning and decision-making.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager of Enterprise Geospatial Systems, you will work with GNWT departments, boards, agencies and external partners to improve the exchange and management of geospatial data. The role combines client support, spatial data administration and technical coordination, including support for enterprise GIS systems, data discovery tools, software licensing and the continued improvement of geomatics services across government.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a primary client liaison for the NWT Centre for Geomatics, supporting the exchange and use of geospatial data.
- Coordinate the discovery, acquisition, development and distribution of spatial data across the GNWT.
- Provide alternate administrator support for enterprise geospatial systems, including user access, data loading, quality control and metadata.
- Administer the GNWT spatial data catalogue and support the NWT Centre for Geomatics website and data discovery tools.
- Administer GIS software contracts and licences, including distribution, usage audits and vendor coordination.
- Contribute to geospatial standards, guidelines, training and ongoing improvements to GNWT geomatics services.
Qualifications Required Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
- A university degree in Computer Science, Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or a related field, combined with two years of work experience related to spatial data management.
- Relevant fields of study may include Geospatial Science, Geospatial Technology, Cartography, Geoinformatics, Geography, Biology, Ecology, Geology and Forestry.
- An equivalency may also include a university degree combined with a post-secondary diploma in GIS or Remote Sensing and two years of related experience in spatial data management.
- Other equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
