As a Global Privacy Officer, you will play a critical role in shaping and strengthening Dye & Durham's global privacy and data protection framework. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will provide strategic legal advice on privacy, data protection, and data security matters across multiple jurisdictions, including Canada, the EU, Australia, and South Africa. Working closely with Legal, International Compliance, Product, Information Security, and Executive Leadership teams, you will ensure compliance with evolving privacy regulations while supporting the business through the negotiation of complex commercial agreements.

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded privacy lawyer who is passionate about regulatory developments, AI governance, and building scalable privacy processes in a global organization

Key Responsibilities

- Provide strategic legal advice on global privacy, data protection, and data security matters.
- Advise the business on compliance with Canadian privacy laws, GDPR, Australian privacy legislation, and South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
- Ensure ongoing compliance with applicable global privacy and data protection laws and regulations.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate privacy risks across the organization.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize commercial agreements, including Master Services Agreements (MSAs), SaaS agreements, licensing agreements, and data protection agreements.
- Draft and negotiate privacy and data protection clauses for customer and vendor contracts.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance privacy policies, procedures, notices, and governance frameworks.




- Lead privacy incident management and breach response activities, including notification and reporting assessments.
- Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and support privacy reviews for new business initiatives.
- Support the development and implementation of the organization's AI Governance framework and participate as a member of the AI Governance Board.
- Respond to privacy-related inquiries and manage requests through the Privacy Officer function.
- Support customer compliance questionnaires, external audits, and certification activities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external counsel to support business objectives and regulatory compliance.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Law degree from Canada or the UK and qualified to practice in the applicable jurisdiction.
- 5-7 years of legal experience gained in private practice and/or a technology-focused organization.
- Strong commercial law experience, including negotiating MSAs and complex commercial transactions.
- Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating technology, SaaS, licensing, and data protection agreements.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian privacy laws and GDPR, with experience advising on global privacy and data protection requirements.




- Knowledge of Australian privacy legislation and South Africa's POPIA is considered an asset.
- Experience working with legal, compliance, and in-house counsel teams within a global organization.
- Strong understanding of privacy risk management, incident response, and privacy governance frameworks.
- Interest in emerging technologies, AI governance, and evolving privacy regulations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Collaborative, team-oriented approach with a low-ego mindset.
- Self-starter who can operate effectively with limited resources and manage competing priorities.
- Hands-on and pragmatic skilled who is willing to roll up their sleeves and drive outcomes.
- Comfortable working across multiple jurisdictions and supporting stakeholders in different time zones.
- Strong relationship-building skills and ability to influence at all levels, including VP and Executive Leadership Team stakeholders.

In line with the amended Employment Standards Act 2000, the salary range for this role is up to: $180K, dependent on assessment of skills during the interview process.
