Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health and Safety Officer to champion safety standards across our operations. In this vital role, you will develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies to ensure a secure working environment for all employees. Your expertise will help foster a safety-first culture that minimizes risks and promotes well-being throughout our facilities.
Full Roles & Responsibilities
1. Health & Safety Program Leadership
· Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) program
· Ensure full compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and all applicable federal, provincial, and local safety legislation
· Establish and maintain safe work practices, procedures, and policies across all departments
· Act as the internal subject-matter expert on occupational health and safety matters
2. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
· Conduct regular workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and job safety analyses
· Identify unsafe conditions or behaviours and work with management and supervisors to implement corrective actions
· Ensure compliance with PPE requirements, equipment safety standards, and operational controls
· Serve as the primary liaison with WorkSafeBC and other regulatory or enforcement agencies

Incident Management & Investigations
· Lead and document incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations
· Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive actions
· Track corrective actions to completion and verify effectiveness
· Prepare and submit required regulatory reports within mandated timelines
4. Training, Onboarding & Recertification
· Deliver in-house health and safety orientation for all new hires
· Provide ongoing safety training and refresher courses, including required recertifications (e.g., WHMIS, PPE, respirator use, lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, etc.)
· Maintain training matrixes and certification records to ensure workforce compliance
· Support supervisors with toolbox talks, job-specific safety briefings, and departmental training
5. Safety Culture & Workforce Engagement
· Promote a proactive, engaged safety culture focused on prevention and accountability
· Maintain a regular shop-floor presence to coach, observe, and support workers and supervisors
· Participate in and support the Joint Health & Safety Committee
· Encourage hazard reporting and employee involvement in safety initiatives
6. Audits, Metrics & Reporting
· Conduct and support internal safety audits and inspections
· Assist with external audits, inspections, and customer or regulatory reviews
· Track and analyze safety performance metrics (e.g., incidents, training compliance, trends)
· Prepare safety reports and recommendations for leadership and management review
7. Documentation & Record Control
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety documentation, procedures, and records
· Ensure training, inspection, and incident records are complete, current, and audit-ready
· Support integration of safety documentation with company management systems
8. Continuous Improvement
· Identify opportunities to improve safety systems, training effectiveness, and risk controls
· Support management in implementing corrective actions and preventative measures
· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that reduce incidents, downtime, and risk
Skills
- Manufacturing experience with a solid understanding of site safety protocols
- Minimum 2+ years experience with investigations, mobile equipment training and WorkSafe Audits
- Holds certifications in training employees on mobile equipment
- Strong communication skills to effectively train staff and liaise with regulatory bodies
- Ability to analyze risks critically and develop practical solutions
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills to manage multiple safety programs simultaneously
