Job Overview The Health, Safety & Quality Manager is responsible for leading two core functions within the organization: Health & Safety and Quality Assurance.
In the Health & Safety capacity, the role oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive programs and policies to ensure compliance with legal requirements and company standards. This includes injury prevention, environmental and occupational safety, employee wellness initiatives, and providing guidance and recommendations to management and staff. In the Quality function, the role is responsible for establishing and maintaining quality assurance and quality control systems, including the development of work instructions, tracking inspections and repairs, and monitoring key performance metrics.
The position also leads the review of customer complaints and drives continuous improvement through root cause analysis and the implementation of effective corrective actions.
Responsibilities
Health and Safety
- Coordinate and facilitate monthly health and safety committee inspections, providing guidance and expertise on health and safety matters. Ensure that all action items resulting from meetings are followed up on through to completion.
- Develop and facilitate various training programs including, but not limited to, employee on-boarding safety orientation, mobile equipment, material handling, workplace specific hazardous material information systems.
- Maintain exceptional detailed documentation pertaining to all health and safety matters including incident reports, risk assessment, Workers Compensation documentation, and other documentation as required.
- Make analyses and recommendations regarding the various OHS measures and procedures.
- Assist and support in the development and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures, in accordance with all relevant legislation.
- Mange post-incident matters including incident investigations, post incident action items.
- Assist with Worker’s Compensation claims and Early and Safe Return to work initiatives.
- Conduct various types of periodic inspections and audits of the facility.
- Remains informed and new legislation and regulations ensure compliance as required.
- Assists with the return-to-work process for both occupational and non-occupational absence.
- Coordinate and maintain record of training completion
- Maintain awareness of amendments of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations and make recommendations regarding their impacts.
- Promote and reward safe operating practices
- Create or update existing/new Standard Operating procedures.
- Perform additional assignments and duties as required.
Quality
- Responsible for the creation and management of all work instructions and visual aids used within the plant.
- Maintain document controls and training review records.
- Collect and analyze quality performance metrics to determine improvement measures.
- Lead a team of QA Inspectors to capture and prevent quality spills.
- Root cause / countermeasure for process related non-conformances.
- Manage supplier quality through communication of spills, new product approval and performance metrics.
- Looking after calibration for measurement tooling used in decision-making.
Skills/Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field is mandatory.
- Occupational Health & Safety Certificate in accordance with applicable legislation is mandatory.
- 3–7 years of experience in occupational health and safety management, preferably in a manufacturing setting
- Strong knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal health & safety legislation, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act,
Workplace Safety & Insurance Act, and applicable Human Rights legislation
- Experience in disability management, accident investigations, workplace inspections, and job hazard analysis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and database systems (e.g. PowerBI)
- Proven leadership and staff management skills with the ability to plan, direct, and prioritize departmental work
- Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to make sound, evidence-based recommendations to management
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
- Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently and under pressure
- Detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to positively impact business results
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
- Knowledge of ISO standards and methodologies an asset
- Ability to read drawings – architectual and mechanical an asset
Working Conditions
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals, measurement tools and photographic equipment.
- Interacts with employees, management and the public at large
- Requirement to wear protective equipment (PPE) at all times when on the production floor.
Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
