The Health Care Aide in Neurosciences program participates in the delivery of quality patient care by performing services necessary for the physical and emotional wellbeing and comfort of the patient.
Nursing
Attendant duties include assisting with bathing, feeding, transferring, lifting and portering patients.

Attendants may be asked to deliver specimens to labs, order supplies, clean and maintain unit equipment, monitor unit tidiness including equipment and storage rooms.
Physical requirements include long periods of standing, walking and lifting.
The Unit
Manager supervises the position, and the Charge Nurse and other team members provide general direction for specified duties.
Description
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing.
Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals.
PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications
Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
Additional Required Qualifications
Healthcare Provider certification required. Must have recent Neuroscience experience required. Ability to work quickly and efficiently with minimal supervision. Must be able to work with and communicate effectively with team members and must be committed to patient and family centered care.
Basic computer skills required. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, must not have current activity restrictions, such as pulling, pushing, reaching and bending. The candidate must have proficiency in Connect Care documentation.
Basic Cardiac Life
Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/.
Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic computer skills, as well as familiarity with medical terminology is preferred.
