Work Location: On site – Brandon Regional Health Centre (150 McTavish Ave East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3)

Anticipated Start Date: TBD

Anticipated Shift: Days, Early Mornings, Mornings, Evenings, Nights, On Call, Weekends

Daily Hours Worked: Various shift lengths

Wage Rate: Independent Contract

Prairie Mountain Health is seeking family physician(s) or internists to join the Hospitalist group at Brandon Regional Health Centre. Applicants can apply for either a full‑time or part‑time position. A full‑time position follows a 1:2 rotation (26 weeks per year) and a part‑time position follows a 1:4 rotation (13 weeks per year). The work week runs Monday through Sunday, on site from 08:00 – 17:00 hours. On‑call responsibilities average a minimum of three nights per week.

The primary role of the Hospitalist is to care for patients presenting to the hospital requiring inpatient admission who do not have a physician with admitting privileges. As the Most Responsible Physician you will manage all care including work‑up, appropriate referrals, discharge planning, and liaison with the community primary care provider. The role offers exposure to a broad scope of acute inpatient medicine while being supported by allied health, specialist services, and a collaborative Hospitalist group.

Brandon, Manitoba’s second largest city, has a population of approximately 60,000 and is a main hub for southwestern Manitoba, serving a catchment area of about 200,000 people. The hospital is a fully accredited, multi‑specialty facility with over 300 beds and is undergoing a $110 million expansion of inpatient facilities, expected to complete in 2026. The campus offers a 24/7 Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, surgical suites,



radiology, ultrasound, CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, and a wide range of specialist services.

It is a satellite campus for the University of Manitoba and the Rady School of Medicine, providing opportunities to contribute to teaching and mentoring medical learners.

Remuneration

Remuneration is derived from the Independent Contract agreement between the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living and Doctors Manitoba.

Responsibilities

- Diagnose and treat diseases and physiological disorders for hospitalized patients.
- Prescribe and administer medication and treatment.
- Refer patients for surgery or specialists.
- Advise patients on health care.
- Provide counseling and support to patients and their families on a wide range of health and lifestyle issues.
- Provide acute care management to a diverse inpatient population.
- Order laboratory tests, X‑rays and other diagnostic procedures to determine the most appropriate medical treatment.
- Help patients develop healthy habits, break old habits and reshape their approach to wellness.
- Examine patients’ health condition to identify diseases and injuries.
- Collect medical information from patients, family members,



or other medical professionals.
- Participate in weekly multidisciplinary rounds to support discharge planning and coordination of care.

Credentials

- The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine degree.
- The successful candidate must have CCFP or FRCPC and be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Manitoba.
- Must be a member of CMPA or provide proof of equivalent malpractice insurance.
- Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required.
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
- Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality in paper, electronic, and other formats.
- Good work and attendance record.

Additional Information

- Complete and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Child Abuse Registry Check, as appropriate.
- All health care workers are required to be immunized as a condition of employment in accordance with the Prairie Mountain Health policy.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
