SUMMARY
The Maintenance Associate performs routine maintenance and repairs for the Hotel property. He/she is responsible for insuring that the rooms and property are maintained in the best possible condition with the least possible inconvenience to guests.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond promptly and professionally to maintenance and repair calls in the hotel and guest rooms.
- Maintain, adjust and repair plumbing facilities such as but not limited to pipes, toilets, floor drains, sinks, cuts and threads or sweats pipes.
- Maintain, adjust and repair electrical facilities such as light fixtures, lamps, switch replacements, receptacle replacements, small appliances and wiring.
- Perform basic repairs to walls (drywall, vinyl), ceilings, windows, mirrors, tiles, baseboards, draperies, hardware.
- Keep the outside grounds, roadways and parking areas free of ice, dust, dirt and garbage.
- Empty garbage cans into bins, cut grass, pull weeds and operate grounds sprinkler system.
- Complete decorating repairs such as replacing drywall, painting and wallpapering and tiling.
- Check and monitor mechanical systems such as boilers, water, sewage and fire systems.
- Perform pool/whirlpool maintenance inclusive of monitoring and addition of chemicals when required.
- Perform basic maintenance to door lock systems including installation and programming.
- Assist guests with in-room technologies such as telephones, voice mail, television and games, lap top hook-ups
- Maintain entire hotel and surrounding areas in perfect working condition
- Perform daily walk around inspections of hotel, inside and outside and complete appropriate paperwork.
- Inspect meeting rooms to ensure air systems, light bulbs and doors are working properly.
- Inspect swimming pool equipment, backwash all filters, clean all pump strainers baskets. Take water readings to determine acceptable levels and PH and chlorine levels. Record information.
- Inspect all areas of grounds to be sure no hazards exist
- Maintain outdoor furniture/waste receptacles/ashtrays
- Keep outdoor areas tidy and swept
- Assist other members of the grounds department when necessary
- Maintain equipment maintenance and work records on computer files
- Maintain and perform simple repairs to equipment
- Inspect guest laundry facilities and equipment. Clean air filters in dryers weekly and record in the appropriate logbook.
- Respond to all fire emergencies and follow the instructions contained in the hotel’s fire safety plan.
- Maintain a clean and safe working area; ensure compliance with Health and Safety procedures that are in place in the hotel.
- Clean and change air filters on units as required.
- Maintain all power tools in secure working condition and immediately report unsafe equipment.
- Comply with all hotel policies and procedures.
- Inspect and maintain roof surface, clear of debris and report any deficiencies.
- Replace, maintain and repair all equipment and small electrical appliances within the hotel such as: irons, telephones, lighting, smoke detectors, safety latches on guest room doors.
- Maintain daily log of work completed.
- Assist other departments when requested.
- Perform monthly testing of the generator and weekly testing of fire pump to ensure proper operation and record information as required by relevant agencies.
- Carry out quarterly Preventative Maintenance functions per Marriott standards and record information in appropriate logbook.
- Respond to guest service calls promptly and efficiently.
- Set up and tear down meeting rooms according to Banquet Event Order requirements.
- Other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- One year experience in a related field or technical school.
- Valid driver’s license required-class G (minimum).
- Ability to work rotating shifts and weekends as required.
- Ability to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Must work well in stressful, high-pressure situations.
- Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to handle problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
- HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance trades work
- Using and maintaining tools and equipment normally associated with carpentry, mechanics, plumbing and electrical work.
- Solid organizational, interpersonal and administration skills.
- Ability to work within and meet deadlines with proven ability to multi-task.
- Demonstrated customer service skills and a genuine desire to exceed guest expectations.
- Must be professional in appearance and demeanor.
- Must be health & safety conscious with proven track record.
- Experience in grounds maintenance, snow removal, horticulture, irrigation & landscaping an asset
- Excellent verbal communication skills (additional spoken languages an asset)
