Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking a Indigenous Steamfitter-Pipefitter Apprentice to work out of our Mill Site location. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting Al-Pac’s Maintenance Services team by following all applicable Alberta and national codes, regulations and accepted safety practices. The job is responsible for the layout, assembly, fabrication, maintenance and repair of piping systems which carry water, steam, chemicals or fuel used in heating, cooling, lubricating and other processes.

Role Responsibilities

- Train and carry out steam-pipefitter maintenance and repair tasks following detailed instructions while working under minimum supervision to complete the allocated tasks.
- Fabrication of new piping runs throughout the Millsite, following all regulatory specifications with detailed instructions to complete the allocated tasks.
- Replace of safety devices, safety relief valves and rupture disc ensuring detailed documentation.
- Ensure that work is carried out to the required quality standards and/or to ensure adherence to external regulatory codes and internal codes of conduct.




- Ensure all safety mandatory documentation is completed, hazard assessments are preformed including all required learning sign offs. Working while always following safety protocols and workspace clear and hazards are controlled.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory and safety codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards.
- Obtain authorization from a supervisor or team leader for any exceptions from mandatory procedure.
- When practicing or carrying out work in the trade, the following tasks, activities and functions come within the trade:
- Determining location, size and material required.
- Installing, maintaining, servicing and troubleshooting boilers and controls.
- Installing, maintaining and servicing heat exchange equipment and controls.
- Cutting, preparing, aligning and assembling piping.
- Installing, maintaining and servicing pumps, valves and related equipment.
- Installing, maintaining and servicing components in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
- Fabricating and installing pipe supports, hangers and equipment supports.

Role Requirements

- Preference will be given to Indigenous candidates who reside in or near Al-Pac’s Forest Management Agreement (FMA) area.
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED
- Successful completion of any required program entrance exams and Al-Pac’s on-line behavioral assessment.
- Valid driver’s license (GDL removed) with an acceptable driving history.
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).

- The ability to read and understand complex instructions.
- Ability to work indoors (high temperature) and outdoors (sub-zero temperatures) at physically demanding tasks that often require climbing and lifting or moving heavy items.

- Accuracy in processing.
- Knowledge and skill in meeting deadlines with multiple duties and tasks.
- Ability to work under pressure, changing priorities, deadlines, and adapt to change.
