Position Title: Indigenous Recruitment Officer

Status: FT Support

Faculty/Department: Recruitment and Student Mobility A minimum 4 days on site.

About The Office Recruitment And Student Mobility At Humber Recruitment and Student Mobility supports prospective students considering Humber. We act as the first point of contact for new and existing Humber students as we deliver impactful and high-quality programming to high schools, colleges, universities and the community raising Humber's profile and increasing awareness of our program and pathway options. As a collaborative team, we work with learners thinking of starting their journey at Humber as well as those looking to add to their previous professional and academic experiences through a new and exciting pathway.

About The Indigenous Recruitment Officer Role The Indigenous Recruitment Officer is an integral member of Humber's strategic enrolment team and is a significant contributor to shaping the public image of Humber. Using labour market trends, college enrolment patterns, government policy and market segment research, the Indigenous Recruitment Officer works collaboratively with community stakeholders (e.g. Humber's Indigenous Education & Engagement team, Indigenous communities, service organizations and agencies)



to implement recruitment initiatives and pre-admission advising for prospective Indigenous learners designed to improve student participation rates and ensure that Humber meets its enrolment targets by generating a strong applicant pool.

The Indigenous Recruitment Officer also serves as the first point of contact for communicating clear and concise information about a broad range of program related questions to students, applicants, guidance counsellors, parents, faculty and college administrators. The incumbent establishes and administers community-based recruitment initiatives, including programming on and off campus to high schools, colleges, universities, community organizations, Indigenous organizations as well as other recruitment events with various stakeholders by delivering impactful presentations to increase college awareness and our offerings. The incumbent meets with prospective students and families individually and in groups to deliver pre-admission advising either in-person, or via electronic media or telephone.

The incumbent develops institutional capacity by acting as a subject matter expert with regards to Indigenous recruitment and community engagement ensuring that recruiters across campus are aware of issues facing Indigenous learners.

This position involves frequent out of town travel, along with significant evening and weekend hours.

A valid G drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle is required for this position along with the ability to drive long distances and lift heavy boxes (approx.

Skill Testing Required: YES (a presentation will be included during the interview process)

4 year degree or equivalent in Marketing, Business, Public Relations, Indigenous Knowledge, Native Studies, Communications, Social Work, Psychology

Lived experience as a First Nations, Métis or Inuit person, and experience working with Indigenous Peoples, communities, and/or organizations.





Must have a minimum 2 years experience in a public relations/marketing capacity or in an outreach/student recruitment role including knowledge of issues Indigenous students face in relation to access, transition and retention from urban and rural environments to PSE, and knowledge and respect for Indigenous teachings and culture.

Experience in event planning

Exceptional public speaking and presentation skills and excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

Knowledge of the issues Indigenous students face in relation to access, transition and retention from urban and rural environments to PSE

Knowledge and respect for Indigenous teachings and cultures

Knowledge of Humber policies, practices, programs is an asset

This position also requires the ability to work evenings, weekends as well as occasional overnight travel throughout Ontario.

Consideration for Support Staff (Article 17 of FT Support Staff and Article 19 of PT Support Staff) positions will be given to internal employees in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements.
