Intake and Assessment Coordinator

Full-Time

This job posting is for an existing vacancy within our organization.

It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. TI has over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services. By incorporating the principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ), TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.

This position provides the most accurate and timely assessment of potential clients in a professional manner and is to be the main and ongoing contact with the client and applicable outside agencies until the client is receiving treatment. Under the supervision of the Treatment Manager and working in collaboration with the clinical team, the Intake and Assessment Coordinator deliver intake services for potential and actual clients of the Mamisarvik Healing Centre.

Responsibilities:

- Conduct client intake interviews
- Provide information and referrals as needed.
- Update the client intake package, as required.
- Create and maintain a waitlist for prospective clients for the pre/day/residential treatment program.
- Maintain an “out-of-province’ and “no suitable” client list for internal use.
- Work closely with other organizations in the applicant referral process
- Assist clients to complete application package for treatment.
- Regular follow up with clients during intake process
- Make referrals to Service Access to Recovery (SAR) to complete the GAIN Q3MI ONT addiction assessments.
- Maintain a collaborative working relationship with SAR and upload all completed documents to Mamisarvik’s case management system.
- Make referrals to SAR’s Nurse Practitioner to ensure clients complete a health assessment and TB screening before admission to the program.
- Upload all necessary documentation to Mamisarvik’s case management system.
- Clinically assess all new and returning client’s files for program readiness.




- Complete a summary and recommendation report based on client information gathered from SAR’s treatment recommendation and the application package.
- Provide information and referrals to other TI services.
- Ensure that service is accessible to all Inuit, by accessing communication and interpretive services, as requested.
- Create a briefing package and summary of potential clients to the clinical team before each treatment cycle.
- Support client by working with community partners to resolve medical, legal, housing, and financial issues that are barriers to treatment.
- Maintain client files in compliance with organizational policy and Privacy Legislation.
- Collect and summarize client and service statistics and other data on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Ensure Counsellors and management are kept informed of developments, progress and issues related to client access to the program.
- May assess potential program participants onsite at correctional facilities and continue contact with CSC for these client’s needs.
- Close inactive client files.
- Become familiar with and comply with all of TI’s policies and procedures; and
- Any other duties assigned to you as may reasonably be required in line with the Position’s main responsibilities.

Education, Qualifications and Skills:

- Undergraduate degree in social work, counselling, addictions, human service management, or related field.
- Professional experience in community-based human services, preferably in the substance dependency or mental health field.
- Certification in CPR, Crisis Prevention and Intervention, Suicide Prevention and intervention, Secure Food Handling and other training.
- Fluency in English required, fluency in Inuktitut is an asset.
- Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, video-conferencing platforms.




- Knowledge of addictions, bio-psycho-social-spiritual influences and effects of dependencies and the range of treatment options.
- Knowledge of abuse and childhood trauma and its impacts on adult survivors
- Knowledge of Inuit history and the devasting impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma.
- Knowledge regarding unique needs and issues impacting Inuit communities.
- Knowledge, respect and appreciation for Inuit culture and values and exemplifying IQ.
- Highly organized and able to maintain accurate and up-to-date filing systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to deescalate crisis situations.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary and multicultural team environment.

Salary and Benefits

- Salary range is $50,000 to $52,762 Annually
- TI provides paid sickness, personal and family sickness leave days, and a 24/7 confidential Employee and Family Assistance Plan.
- Vacation (earn 3 weeks/year).
