Job Summary
Student Affairs is a collection of integrated units that collaborates with faculty, staff and students to enhance the student experience. We promote an inclusive, holistic and student-centric approach to learning and academic success and act as a qualified resource in the delivery of evidence-based student enrolment, wellness, development and academic support programs and services.Reporting to the Director, International Centre, the International Student Support Coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for the International Centre, providing comprehensive support for international students, exchange and study abroad participants, visiting international researchers, and International Centre operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary front-line contact for International Centre visitors and inquiries, providing information, referrals, and service support.
- Provide front-line, administrative support to Dalhousie’s inbound and outbound study abroad and exchange programs, including guidance to / support for prospective and current exchange students during the application, nomination, pre-departure, travel, and post-return stages.
- Work with visiting international researchers and their supervisors,
and collaborate with campus partners, to facilitate preparations for their arrival.
- Organize orientations and post-return debrief opportunities for outbound exchange students, and welcome sessions and social activities for inbound exchange students.
- Coordinate International Centre communications via its main platforms, including International Centre emails, newsletters, website updates, and social media accounts.
- Support the efficient operation of the International Centre, including records management, reporting, office administration, ordering supplies, and ensuring the smooth operation of the Centre’s appointment booking system.
Note Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
- Business/Administrative Professional diploma plus approximately three to five years’ relevant experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Demonstrated experience providing exceptional client service and supporting diverse student populations in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
- Strong intercultural competence, with the ability to communicate effectively and work respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, coordinate events, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing communications, social media content, and student-facing resources.
- Proficiency with technology and information systems, including databases, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms, as well as the demonstrated ability to learn new systems.
Assets
- Undergraduate degree.
- Experience working in a post-secondary education environment.
- Familiarity with Canadian immigration regulations and requirements in so far as they apply to international students.
- First-hand experience as an international/exchange student.
- Proficiency in additional language(s).
