ABOUT CHIMAX INC.

Founded in 1994, Chimax Inc. is a professional engineering firm with a long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality substation, switchyard, and transmission and distribution line engineering to clients in the utility, renewable energy, oil and gas, and mining sectors. With a strong civil and structural practice already established, Chimax is expanding its service offerings with the launch of a dedicated Electrical Engineering Division.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a genuine career-building opportunity for an early-career electrical engineering graduate to join Chimax’s new Electrical Engineering Division and develop real, hands-on expertise in power systems and substation design. Working under the mentorship of experienced engineers and the direction of the Director, Electrical Design Services, the candidate will contribute to a broad range of engineering tasks across active projects — with increasing responsibility as skills and confidence grow.

We are looking for someone who is technically curious, detail-oriented, and motivated to build a career in electrical power engineering within a collaborative and growing team. Whether you are a recent graduate or have a couple of years of experience, if you have a passion for electrical power systems and a desire to develop your skills in substation design, we want to hear from you.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

- Support the development of electrical engineering design packages for MV/HV substations, switchyards, and associated electrical infrastructure, under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Assist in the preparation of single line diagrams, schematic and three-line diagrams, connection and wiring diagrams, and cable schedules
- Perform and assist with engineering calculations including cable sizing and ampacity, raceway fill, short circuit analysis,

load flow, arc flash, and grounding studies using established software tools.
- Support the development of protection relay settings and assist in relay coordination studies under the direction of a senior engineer.
- Assist in the development of SCADA and communications architecture schemes, including points lists and RTU configurations.
- Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and project meetings, contributing ideas and asking questions to deepen your understanding.
- Conduct site visits alongside senior team members to observe construction activities, gather field data, and gain exposure to practical substation installation and commissioning.
- Assist in preparing technical reports, engineering submissions, and client deliverables to the standard expected by Chimax and its clients.
- Adhere to all Chimax workplace policies, quality standards, and Health & Safety requirements at all times.
- Take on additional responsibilities as your technical skills and experience develop, and as the division grows.

WHAT YOU BRING

- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus or robust interest in Electrical Power Systems, substation design, or protection and control.
- Foundational knowledge of electrical power systems principles, including transformer theory, fault analysis, protective relaying, and power system protection — developed through coursework, co-op experience, or early career work.
- Exposure to or interest in engineering software tools such as EasyPower, ETAP, PSCAD, or similar platforms is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills,

with the ability to work methodically through technical challenges and ask for guidance when needed.
- A detail-oriented approach to work, with a commitment to accuracy and quality in all engineering outputs.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document technical work clearly and professionally.
- A team-oriented, eager-to-learn attitude — you take feedback constructively, bring initiative to your work, and are genuinely motivated to grow as an engineer.

YOUR DEVELOPMENT PATH Chimax is committed to the professional development of every member of our engineering team. As an EIT at Chimax, you will benefit from:

- Structured mentorship from experienced electrical engineers with deep expertise in substation design and power systems.
- Exposure to diverse project types across MV/HV substations, switchyards, and transmission infrastructure for utility, renewable energy, and industrial clients.
- Progressive responsibility — as your competencies grow, so will the complexity and autonomy of your assignments.
- Support for your path to P.Eng. — Chimax will support your experience documentation, supervision requirements, and professional development as you work toward your Professional Engineer designation.
- A collaborative team environment where asking questions is encouraged and technical growth is valued.

WHY CHIMAX Joining Chimax’s Electrical Engineering Division means being part of a growing team at a firm with over 30 years of engineering history and a deep network of established client relationships. You’ll work on technically challenging substation and power systems projects from day one, supported by experienced colleagues and a leadership team genuinely invested in your development. If you are looking to grow your career in electrical engineering at a company that values technical excellence and teamwork, Chimax is the right place.
