Junior Paper & Packaging Designer Duration: 6 months, approx 37 hrs/week Onsite, 4 days/week in office (Downtown Toronto) Starts: August 2026
Rate: $25-30/hr (T4) Our retail client is looking for Junior Designer (Paper & Packaging) to support the design and development of paper products and packaging by creating original graphics, artwork, and visual concepts. This role collaborates with design, merchandising, sourcing, and production teams to deliver high quality products that align with brand standards, customer expectations, and project timelines.
The position contributes to the creation of innovative seasonal collections from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development of graphics, artwork, typography, and packaging designs from initial concept to final production.
- As needed, research and recommend stock illustration and patterns for purchase.
- Retouch and re-colour purchased prints and images to ensure cohesion with season's concept and brand aesthetic.
- Collaborate with designers, merchants, sourcing teams, artists, and production partners to ensure the successful execution of product artwork
- Manage multiple projects and seasonal collections simultaneously throughout various stages of development
- Create technical specifications and detailed tech packs for vendor development and production
- Resize, adapt, and format artwork and imagery for a variety of product and packaging applications
- Review product samples to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to design standards
- Track product development timelines, manage revisions, and communicate updates and feedback to vendors
- Partner with cross functional teams to identify and resolve design, production,
and quality issues
- Research and apply emerging design trends to support innovative product development
- Advocate for the customer by incorporating customer preferences and expectations into design decisions
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve processes, workflows, and product outcomes
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing knowledge, seeking feedback, and supporting continuous learning
Skills & Experience:
- Degree or diploma in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Industrial Design, or a related field
- 2 to 3 years of experience in an agency or in house creative environment
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign; experience with Procreate is an asset
- Understanding of print production, packaging design, and technical specifications.
- Strong understanding of graphic design, typography, page layout, and branding principles.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
- Robust collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Understanding of retail design standards and packaging design is an asset
