The OpportunityOur client is an established financial-services organization specializing in real-estate-backed financing solutions throughout Western Canada.

The organization is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Risk & Compliance Specialist with two to five years of relevant experience. This position offers an excellent opportunity to build broader expertise in regulatory compliance, enterprise risk management, anti-money laundering, privacy, cybersecurity governance and internal controls.

Working closely with senior leadership and external professional advisors, the successful candidate will help protect the organization, strengthen its compliance practices and support a culture of integrity, accountability and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance

- Support the maintenance of the organization’s Compliance Management Program
- Monitor compliance with applicable financial-services, mortgage-lending and securities requirements
- Assist with regulatory filings, reports and compliance documentation
- Monitor regulatory developments and communicate relevant changes
- Help prepare for regulatory examinations, audits and compliance reviews
- Maintain organized and accurate regulatory records
- Assist with compliance reporting for senior leadership and the Board

Risk Management
- Support the development and maintenance of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework
- Help identify and assess operational, financial, regulatory and reputational risks
- Maintain the Corporate Risk Register
- Track risk-mitigation plans and outstanding corrective actions
- Assist with organizational risk assessments
- Help monitor Key Risk Indicators and emerging risks
- Support business-continuity and operational-resilience planning

Anti-Money Laundering
- Support the organization’s AML and anti-terrorist financing program
- Assist with Know Your Client and Customer Due Diligence reviews
- Monitor client documentation for completeness and compliance
- Help identify and escalate unusual or potentially suspicious activities
- Maintain AML records, procedures and training documentation
- Assist with annual AML risk assessments




- Support compliance with applicable FINTRAC and PCMLTFA requirements

Privacy and Cybersecurity Governance
- Assist with maintaining privacy and data-protection policies
- Support privacy-breach documentation, assessment and reporting
- Help monitor the appropriate collection, use, storage and protection of information
- Assist with cybersecurity risk assessments and awareness initiatives
- Support third-party technology and vendor-risk reviews
- Participate in business-continuity and incident-response planning

Compliance Monitoring and Internal Controls
- Assist with the annual Compliance Monitoring Program
- Conduct routine compliance reviews and internal-control testing
- Document findings and recommend practical corrective actions
- Monitor the completion of corrective-action plans
- Maintain compliance checklists, records and supporting documentation
- Identify opportunities to strengthen processes and internal controls

Training and Compliance Culture
- Help develop and deliver employee training on compliance, AML, privacy, cybersecurity and ethical conduct
- Provide employees with practical guidance on established policies and procedures
- Promote integrity, accountability and regulatory awareness
- Encourage employees to identify and escalate compliance concerns appropriately

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in business, finance, commerce, law, risk management or a related discipline
- Two to five years of relevant experience in compliance, risk management, audit, governance, financial services or a related area
- Experience working in a regulated environment
- General knowledge of Canadian financial-services regulation
- Familiarity with AML, KYC, Customer Due Diligence, FINTRAC or PCMLTFA requirements
- Strong analytical,



research and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel

Preferred QualificationsOne or more of the following would be considered an asset:
- Experience in mortgage lending, private lending, banking or securities
- Canadian Securities Course
- Conduct and Practices Handbook
- Progress toward a CAMS, CRM, CRMP, CIPP/C, CIA or related designation
- Experience supporting compliance monitoring or internal-control testing
- Experience preparing reports for senior management
- Knowledge of Alberta privacy legislation
- Familiarity with cybersecurity or third-party risk management
