Behaviour Interventionist (BI) / MentorJob Overview

Nenno Behavioural Consultation Services (NBCS) is seeking compassionate, energetic, and relationship-focused Behaviour Interventionists (BIs) / Mentors to join our growing team supporting neurodivergent children and youth.

At NBCS, we believe meaningful progress begins with connection, trust, safety, and understanding the whole child. Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and individualized to each child or youth and their family.

As a BI/Mentor, you will work one-to-one with children and youth in their homes, schools, communities, and recreational settings. Support may include building independence and life skills, emotional regulation, communication, social connection, executive functioning, community participation, confidence, and other individualized goals.

This role is about much more than managing behaviour. Our Mentors build genuine relationships, discover what motivates and interests each young person, and create opportunities for learning and growth through everyday experiences.

You will work as part of a collaborative team and receive guidance and supervision from an NBCS Behaviour Consultant.

What You'll Do

- Provide individualized 1:1 support to neurodivergent children and youth based on their unique strengths, needs, interests, and goals
- Implement individualized support strategies developed in collaboration with the child's Behaviour Consultant, family, and support team
- Build positive, trusting relationships that create a foundation for learning and growth
- Support emotional regulation, communication, executive functioning, independence, life skills, social connection, and community participation
- Use neurodiversity-affirming, relationship-based and trauma-informed approaches
- Adapt activities and expectations based on the child's communication style, sensory needs, regulation, interests, and capacity
- Incorporate children's interests into meaningful, engaging activities and learning opportunities

- Support children and youth in natural environments including their home, school and community
- Participate in community outings and recreational activities that build confidence, independence, and real-world skills
- Collaborate with Behaviour Consultants, families, educators, and other members of the child's support team
- Observe and document sessions, progress, successes, barriers, and relevant information to support ongoing planning
- Help children and youth develop self-advocacy skills and greater independence while respecting their autonomy and individual differences
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, reliability, and consistency with families

Who We're Looking For We are looking for people who genuinely enjoy working with children and youth and understand that connection often comes before intervention.

Our ideal candidates are patient, playful, creative, dependable, open-minded, and able to meet children where they are rather than expecting every child to fit the same approach.

Experience or education in areas such as behavioural science, psychology, education, child and youth care, social work, ECE, community support, disability services, or related fields is an asset.

We also welcome applicants with relevant lived or practical experience who demonstrate a strong ability to connect with and support neurodivergent children and youth.

Assets Include

- Experience supporting autistic, ADHD, PDA, or otherwise neurodivergent children and youth
- Experience supporting children with diverse communication, sensory, emotional, behavioural, or developmental needs
- Understanding of neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed practice

- Experience working with children or youth in home, school, recreational, respite, or community settings
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to remain calm and supportive when a child is experiencing distress or dysregulation
- Creativity and willingness to adapt rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach
- Ability to work collaboratively with families and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong reliability, professionalism, and communication
- Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and participate in ongoing supervision and training

Our Approach NBCS has supported children, youth, and families across British Columbia for more than 10 years.

Our team works with families from diverse backgrounds and communities, including children and youth with varying levels of support needs, children in care, Indigenous children and families, and families living in rural and underserved communities.

We do not believe that the goal of support should be to make neurodivergent children appear neurotypical. Instead, we focus on helping each child develop meaningful skills, confidence, autonomy, connection, and quality of life while respecting who they are.

We value curiosity over judgment, connection over compliance, and individualized support over one-size-fits-all intervention.

Why Join NBCS?

As part of the NBCS team, you will have the chance to build meaningful relationships with children and families while developing hands-on experience supporting neurodivergent children and youth.

You'll be supported by experienced Behaviour Consultants and a multidisciplinary team and have opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills through supervision, collaboration, and ongoing learning.

If you're looking for work where you can show up authentically, build genuine connections, have fun, and make a meaningful difference in the life of a child or youth, we'd love to hear from you.

Pay: $25.00 per hour
