Job Description
Position Summary:
The Director, Finance and Administration provides leadership and oversight for Wanuskewin Heritage Park's financial management, administrative operations, and human resource functions. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and leadership team, this position helps ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization through sound financial stewardship, effective planning, robust internal controls, and organizational support.
- Responsible to ensure financial management practices result in ongoing stewardship, cost efficiencies, and strong operating results, enabling growth and creating financial sustainability.
- Responsible to develop and maintain Wanuskewin’s overall operating and capital budgets, cash flow management, and forecasting.
- Responsible to work with all department heads to ensure each manager is able to manage their budget ensuring the overall budget achieves organizational objectives.
- Responsible to ensure all financial procedures and internal controls are followed appropriately by each department.
- Provide Wanuskewin management and the Board of Directors with accurate regular financial reports
- Responsible to manage the annual external audit process and present audit findings and audited financial statements to management and the Board of Directors.
- Responsible for ensuring that all funding received from donations, sponsorships, and grants is administered in compliance with federal and provincial laws, regulations, policies, and legislation.
- Responsible to ensure safeguards all of Wanuskewin’s financial resources including financial and cash flow management and asset management.
- Responsible to accurately oversee the full banking, accounts receivable, and accounts payable cycles.
- Responsible to oversee all aspects of human resources administration, including payroll and benefit administration, employee file record keeping, performance management, employee relations, and the employee on- and off-boarding cycle.
- Responsible for the management of information technology services and oversight of external support provision.
- Participate in the implementation of Wanuskewin’s strategic plan and ensure the financial plan is aligned with the strategic direction of Wanuskewin.
- Responsible for overseeing all aspects of staff management ensuring a high-performing, engaged, and cohesive team.
Skills
Requirements
- Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in finance, administration, business management, nonprofit leadership, or a related field.
- An undergraduate degree in business is required.
- A Chartered Professional Accountant designation or working towards designation is preferred.
- Applicants with less direct experience who demonstrate exceptional leadership potential, financial aptitude, and a strong commitment to learning are encouraged to apply.
- Experience using Quickbooks Online, MS Office Suite, and various other financial and administrative software is preferred.
- Experience leading administrative projects is an asset.
- Knowledge of Plains Indigenous cultures and experience working with Indigenous organizations is an asset.
- Demonstrated skill in coaching, developing, and mentoring direct reports to ensure their success.
- Demonstrated writing skills that are clear, concise, and accurate.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment in a professional respectful manner.
- Ability to network and represent Wanuskewin at public events as required.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- A suitable combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
