Kinship Case Support Worker

Term: Full-time

Salary Range: $58,670 - $70,060.00 (Depending on education and experience)

The Kinship Case Support Worker will recruit, engage, and screen identified family for emotional, customary, and legal permanency options for children and youth of Whitefish River First Nation. This role is critical in helping children and youth connect and remain connected with family. The Kinship Case Support Worker operates within legislative frameworks, organizational policies, and the vision of Whitefish River First Nation to ensure children and youth thrive within the WRFN community. In addition, the Kinship Case Support Worker will support families willing to take youth and child relatives through identifying qualified families, ensuring they meet required standards and checks, assisting in completing Family Plans, and arranging family case conference or circles.

Qualifications

- Minimum Native Child and Family Services or Social Services Worker Diploma. A diploma in related discipline will be considered with a combination of related work experience;
- Child welfare experience preferred;
- A minimum of two years’ experience with Anishinabek children, youth, individuals, and families;
- Must provide an up to date and clear Vulnerable Sector Screening Check upon hire;
- Must have a Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle;
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office;
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and oral;
- Awareness of First Nations culture and issues affecting First Nations families;
- Knowledge of risk assessments; counseling skills, child abuse standards, child welfare legislation, and regulations;




- Demonstrated skills in report writing and documentation;
- Ability to work independently and be part of an integrated community team;
- Ability to collaborate successfully with other organizations as needed.

Skills: Because this role involves sensitive and sometimes emotionally challenging work, we are looking for candidates who demonstrate strong emotional resilience, self‑awareness, and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure. Along with the following:

- Culturally appropriate, empowering children, youth, and families to remain connected and supported.
- Knowledge of complex trauma, attachment disruption, grief and loss, and the intergenerational impacts of the child welfare system on First Nations youth.
- Develop strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners.
- Familiarity with Extended Society Care, Customary Care, Kinship Care, and Voluntary Youth Service Agreements.
- Must be comfortable with the holistic approach.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Empathetic, culturally sensitive, and community-oriented.
- Reliable, proactive, and a positive role model.
- Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and work with discretion.
