About Ghent Landscape
We are a growing landscape construction company completing both residential and commercial outdoor construction projects including patios, retaining walls, grading, decks, and site works. Our teams take pride in delivering high-quality craftsmanship, working safely, and maintaining a strong, supportive crew environment.
We offer steady, hands-on work, opportunities to develop equipment skills, and the chance to contribute to projects that transform outdoor spaces across the region.
About the Role The Landscape Construction Lead Hand works as part of a field crew on a variety of residential and commercial landscape construction projects. This hands-on role supports the day-to-day leadership of the crew while actively contributing to excavation, grading, hardscape and softscape installation, and general site work.
The ideal candidate has solid landscape construction experience, takes pride in quality workmanship, and is comfortable helping guide and support other crew members on site. You will work closely with the Foreman to keep projects moving efficiently, maintain a safe and organized job site, and ensure work is completed to company standards.
What You’ll Do
- Lead by example in the field while supporting the crew in completing large-scale commercial and residential hardscape and softscape projects on time and to company quality standards.
- Work collaboratively with the Foreman or Project Manager to understand project requirements, timelines, and specifications.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and design plans to ensure accurate layout and execution.
- Operate and supervise the safe use of landscape construction equipment (e.g.,
skid steers, mini-excavators, compactors) and tools.
- Participate in the construction of retaining walls, patios, walkways, grading, drainage systems, and other landscape features.
- Perform hands-on construction and labour duties including material handling, site preparation, excavation, grading, installation, clean-up, and other physical tasks as needed.
- Ensure proper installation of plant materials, sod, mulch, and other softscape elements according to design plans.
- Maintain job site safety, cleanliness, and organization at all times; conduct regular site inspections to identify and address hazards.
- Provide hands-on training and guidance to crew members; foster a positive, respectful, and productive team environment.
- Monitor work quality and progress, reporting issues or delays to the Foreman and offering proactive solutions.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and occasionally with clients or subcontractors on-site.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and ensure tools are cleaned and properly stored at the end of each day.
- Support overall project success by performing general labour duties as needed and adapting to changing site priorities.
What We’re Looking For
- 2–3 years of hands-on experience in landscape construction.
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment commonly used in landscape projects (e.g., skid steers, mini-excavators, compactors) is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, and blueprints.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a construction or landscaping environment is a strong asset.
- Physically capable of lifting, up to 50 lbs and performing physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Safety-focused, with a strong understanding of job site protocols and best practices.
- Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address challenges as they arise on-site.
- Punctual, reliable, and professional in demeanor; able to lead by example and maintain positive team morale.
If you take pride in your work, enjoy being part of a solid crew, and want steady hands-on construction work, we’d like to hear from you. Apply today.
Due to continued company growth and an expanding project pipeline, we are adding new positions to our landscape construction crews.
