Implant Genius is looking for an experienced Lead Data Scientist / Head of AI to take ownership of the next phase of development of our TX-Genius AI platform.
This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role for someone who can lead AI strategy and architecture while remaining deeply involved in model development, experimentation, validation, and deployment.
For the right candidate, this position has the potential to evolve into a CTO role as the company and technology platform scale.
About Implant Genius
Implant Genius is developing an AI-powered digital dentistry platform that combines artificial intelligence, computer vision, 3D geometry, clinical data, and computational design to improve treatment planning and automate patient-specific dental design workflows.
Our technology is being developed for applications including:
- AI-assisted denture and prosthesis design
- Generative smile design and visualization
- Patient-specific dental reconstruction
- Implant and restorative treatment planning
- Tooth and gingival segmentation
- Tooth morphology and anatomical prediction
- Occlusion and bite-plane analysis
- Automated anatomical landmark detection
- Facial, intraoral scan, and CBCT data fusion
- 3D facial/head reconstruction using images, video, LiDAR, depth sensing, and photogrammetry
- Clinician, laboratory, and patient collaboration workflows
Our goal is to convert multimodal patient data into accurate, clinically usable, customized digital treatment solutions.
The Role
You will lead the technical development of Implant Genius' AI and 3D technology and help transition advanced R&D; into scalable, production-ready products.
You will work directly with company leadership, software engineers, data scientists, dental technicians, prosthodontists, implant surgeons, and external clinical partners.
Key Responsibilities
AI & Generative Modeling
- Architect and develop AI models for dental treatment planning, prosthesis design, denture design, smile design, and anatomical reconstruction.
- Develop and evaluate generative approaches including diffusion models, transformers, GANs, NeRFs, and emerging 3D generative architectures.
- Build multimodal AI models combining intraoral scans, facial imaging, CBCT, photographs, depth data, and other clinical information.
- Develop models for tooth segmentation, morphology prediction, gingival reconstruction, implant positioning, occlusion, and restorative adaptation.
- Fine-tune and extend architectures such as Vision Transformers, PointNet++, MeshCNN, 3D U-Net, and related point-cloud and mesh networks.
- Create feedback and active-learning systems using clinical and production outcomes.
3D Computer Vision & Geometry
- Develop algorithms for 3D reconstruction of facial and oral anatomy using photogrammetry, RGB-D, LiDAR, and video.
- Build registration and alignment pipelines between maxillary, mandibular, intraoral, CBCT, and facial datasets.
- Develop point-cloud and mesh-processing algorithms for segmentation, landmarks, surface reconstruction, occlusion, margin detection, and prosthetic fitting.
- Create patient-specific geometry and generative shape-modeling workflows.
- Work with technologies such as Open3D, PyTorch3D, trimesh, VTK, COLMAP, Blender APIs, and related 3D libraries.
Technical Leadership
- Own and evolve the TX-Genius AI technology roadmap.
- Translate clinical and product requirements into technical architecture and development priorities.
- Determine how research prototypes should transition into reliable production systems.
- Establish technical standards for model development, validation, documentation, testing, and deployment.
- Mentor and lead data scientists, ML engineers, and software developers.
- Participate in hiring and building the company's future technical organization.
- Work closely with executive leadership on product strategy, intellectual property, technology partnerships, and commercialization.
- Contribute to the long-term technical direction of Implant Genius and potentially transition into the CTO role.
Data Infrastructure & MLOps
- Design pipelines for large multimodal datasets including DICOM, STL, PLY, OBJ, images, video, meshes, and point clouds.
- Build robust data-curation, annotation, anonymization, and quality-control processes.
- Establish scalable cloud training and inference environments using AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Implement reproducible ML workflows using tools such as Docker, MLflow, Weights & Biases, Airflow, and CI/CD.
- Deploy AI models into production services and integrate them with TX-Genius APIs and applications.
- Optimize models for accuracy, scalability, reliability, and clinically practical inference times.
Clinical Validation & Research
- Collaborate directly with prosthodontists, dental surgeons, laboratories, and dental technicians.
- Establish quantitative validation methodologies for anatomical accuracy, prosthetic fit, design quality,
treatment predictability, and turnaround time.
- Lead applied research in AI dentistry, 3D reconstruction, computational prosthodontics, and generative dental design.
- Contribute to patents, publications, and the expansion of Implant Genius' intellectual-property portfolio.
- Support technical components of IRAP, SR&ED;, and other R&D; programs.
Required Qualifications
- MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, Computational Geometry, or a related discipline.
- Approximately 5–10+ years of relevant AI/ML or computer-vision experience, with demonstrated technical ownership of complex projects.
- Advanced proficiency in Python.
- Strong experience with PyTorch and modern deep-learning architectures.
- Strong background in computer vision and 3D data processing.
- Practical experience with point clouds, meshes, segmentation, reconstruction, registration, and geometric algorithms.
- Robust mathematical foundation in linear algebra, optimization, probability, numerical methods, and 3D geometry.
- Experience taking ML systems from experimentation through production deployment.
- Strong Git, software development, code review, and CI/CD practices.
- Experience designing scalable cloud-based ML infrastructure.
Highly Valued Experience Experience in one or more of the following would be a significant advantage:

- Medical or dental imaging
- CBCT and DICOM
- Dental CAD/CAM
- Medical devices or healthcare technology
- HIPAA, PIPEDA, GDPR, or regulated healthcare-data environments
