This is a FULL-TIME position (Monday-Friday 8AM-4PM) and follows the school-year calendar.
This is a responsible professional position involving work at the direct service level. Job requirements include assisting with nursing duties under the direction of the registered nurse.
- Provide primary care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses, including effective nursing assessment skills, preparation of care plan, treatment, or referral
- Participate in workers’ health maintenance programs through various activities, e.g. pre-placement and periodic assessments, immunizations etc.
- Maintain an accurate, timely and premium record keeping system
- Identify health needs for children (participants- to include both adult and children) and workers, and develop objectives, and implement programs in promotion of physical and mental health, maintenance and rehabilitation
- Institute Wellness Programs appropriate to the program needs
- Develop and maintain a liaison with health and services agencies in the community
- Cooperate with and act as a resource to the appropriate personnel in developing and maintaining a safe work environment
- Evaluate the nursing service provided for appropriateness and effectiveness
Education & Experience:
- Minimum 2 - 3 years of experience in other areas of Nursing (i.e. education, home care, emergency, critical care or clinic settings)
- Licensed Practical Nurse – in good standing with the applicable provincial nurses’ association
- Current Certifications in CPR and First Aid
Skills & Qualifications:
- Participate in professional nursing organizations and assume responsibility for professional growth and development
- Proficient in computer programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Electronic Medical Records
- Ability to work in a cooperative/collaborative manner to achieve a desired result
- Demonstrated problem solving abilities
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all areas of responsibility
- Excellent interpersonal, diplomacy, and communication skills
Clinical Skills:
- Experience caring for individual/s with complex medical needs.
- Knowledge and competency in seizure management, tracheostomy care and emergency response to decannulation, and suctioning.
- Medication administration, including controlled and emergency medication, medication reconciliation.
- Ability to recognize changes in health status and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
- Strong clinical judgement, health assessments and ongoing monitoring, documentation and communication skills.
- Gastrostomy tube (G-tube/PEG/MIC-Key) management /feeding and medication administration.
- Diabetes management, including blood glucose monitoring.
- Infection recognition, prevention and control practices.
- Management of risk and dysphagia precautions.
- Ability to work collaboratively with families,
instructors/teachers, healthcare professionals and support staffs.
- Comfortable working independently and providing guidance/education to unregulated staff.
- Experience in pediatric and special needs population is an asset.
Experience Commonly Preferred
1. 1–3 years of LPN experience.

1. Community, school, home care, pediatric, or continuing care experience.

Pay: $26.00-$33.00 per hour
