Lighting Technician
Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Lighting Technician to join our agile team for a full-time term position from September to December.
Lights Unlimited creates outdoor lighting installations throughout Winnipeg and surrounding areas, including seasonal and holiday displays, tree lighting, festival installations, architectural lighting, and permanent Gemstone Lights. Our technicians work on a wide variety of outdoor projects, from lighting trees and homes to helping transform larger spaces for festivals and seasonal displays.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working outdoors, working with a team, and seeing a project come to life. You do not need to be an electrician. Key attributes for a potential hire are high character, a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and an understanding of basic electrical and outdoor lighting principles.
Requirements
- Full-time availability Monday to Friday, September to early December, plus some Saturdays upon request.
- Comfortable working at heights on ladders up to 32’ and/or lift equipment.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather, including cold.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence. Air Brake endorsement preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities
- Install Gemstone Lights and other seasonal and outdoor lighting to a high standard, consistently meeting or exceeding quality and time standards set by management.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Gemstone Lights and other seasonal lighting.
- Follow all safety protocols when handling electrical equipment and working at heights.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
- Read, understand, and follow work orders and installation plans.
- Where qualified and certified, operate bucket trucks, lift equipment, and other specialized equipment related to working at heights.
Qualifications
- Positive, team-first attitude.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
- Full range of body movement and ability to carry and position ladders up to 32’.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required by seasonally varied installation schedules.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
- Experience operating bucket trucks and mobile work platforms is preferred, but not required, including articulating lifts up to 85’, straight booms up to 85’, and scissor lifts up to 45’.
