About the Role
Highlands Fish and Game Club is seeking a reliable, hands-on Camp Operations Manager / Caretaker to live on-site and manage the day-to-day operations of our private fish and game club. This is a unique live-in position responsible for cottage turnovers, property maintenance, member hospitality, record-keeping, and overall upkeep of the grounds, buildings, boats, and lakes.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and prepare cottages for new occupants the same day guests depart (full turnover: linens, bathrooms, kitchens, floors, dusting, vacuuming, restocking supplies, etc.).
- Perform general building and grounds maintenance (minor plumbing, carpentry, painting/staining, window cleaning, snow clearing of walkways/entrances, grass/weed cutting, leaf/eavestrough cleaning, etc.).
- Maintain boats, docks, and related equipment; store and winterize as required.
- Manage garbage/recycling removal and wood supply for cottages and club facilities.
- Keep accurate records of fish catches, guest sign-ins, bookings, fees collected, maintenance logs, and daily activity logs.
- Feed fish in designated lakes and assist with stocking/removal as directed.
- Provide hospitality support (respond to member/guest requests, address concerns, lost & found, occasional meal preparation by separate arrangement).
- Conduct regular property patrols and ensure compliance with club rules.
- Assist with club work days, Board meetings, and the Annual General Meeting.
- Maintain central heating system during heating season and ensure safety equipment (smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, etc.) is functional.
- Be available and responsive to members, guests, and the Board of Directors.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $32,669.00 gross per year
- Fishing privilege: Employee + immediate family may catch a combined maximum of 80 trout (valued at $560).
- Tips: 100% of tips from members/guests retained by the caretaker.
- Additional income: Opportunity to negotiate and keep payment for optional meal preparation/delivery services for members/guests.
- Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation per year (subject to prior Board approval).
- Live-on-site private residence provided (all utilities are included as well at no cost to the employee).
Ideal Candidate
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Robust practical skills in cleaning, general maintenance, minor repairs, and outdoor property care.
- Excellent customer-service attitude and ability to interact courteously with members and guests.
- Organized, with good record-keeping habits and willingness to maintain daily logs.
- Physically capable of performing the full range of duties (including seasonal outdoor work such as snow removal, wood handling, and grounds maintenance).
- Available to live on-site at the club.
- Previous experience in hospitality, property management, camp/resort operations, or similar roles is an asset.
Pay: $17.60-$17.95 per hour
