The Opportunity

Machine Builder

We are seeking three highly motivated Machine Builders to join our innovative building team. Machine Builders fabricate and assemble components used in the building of winding and cutting machines (and other) used in the transformer manufacturing industry.

The successful candidate will have mechanical aptitude and can work in a fast-paced environment with little supervision.

Brief Summary of the Positions' Primary Responsibilities

- Manufacturing of components / sub systems in support of company objectives. This includes machining, welding, and painting.
- Assist with machine or sub-system assembly (i.e. mandrels, machines, etc.).
- Communicate raw material or other resource requirements as it relates to achieving company milestones
- Support shipping and receiving functions with the company as required
- Aid engineering staff on machine / component design and best practises for part manufacturability.
- Provide support to apprentice machinist and machine builders.
- Support the companies LEAN manufacturing initiatives through continuous improvement activities.




- Support the companies core values (integrity, excellence, customer first, stewardship, and teamwork)
- Adhere with MTM Staff Guidance Document
- Other duties as discussed

Education and Experience

- Some College / vocational or technical training
- Machinist trade certification or equivalent experience / education from recognized agency or technical college.
- 5 years minimum as a Machine Builder

Must be familiar with the following Machining Tools and Machines

- Drill presses
- Milling machines
- Lathe
- Surface grinders
- Measuring Tools
- Callipers
- Gauges

Required Technical Skills

- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and tables
- Set up and adjust production machinery
- Fit, assemble components, and machine parts to close tolerance
- Verify dimensions of machined tools and parts using precision measuring instruments
- Document and report deviations from specifications and tolerances

Other Qualifications

- Speak, read, and write in English.
- Critical thinking
- Other languages an asset
- Weight handling - More than 22.5 kg (50 lbs)
- Problem solving abilities are vital

Reporting Relationship This position reports to the Construction Manager and Lead Hands.
