Rylex Machine & Supply Ltd. is looking for a Machine Shop Foreman to lead our machining department. We are a smaller, established machine shop primarily serving the oil and gas industry, manufacturing and machining flanges, fittings and related products. This is a hands-on working foreman position.
Our Foreman oversees a small machining team while also setting up, programming and operating CNC and manual equipment as required. The successful candidate should be an experienced machinist who is comfortable taking ownership of the day-to-day operation of the machine shop, organizing production priorities and solving machining problems as they arise.
Responsibilities
- Organize and prioritize daily machine shop production to meet customer delivery requirements.
- Supervise, assist and mentor a small team of machinists.
- Set up and operate CNC lathes and milling machines.
- Perform general CNC programming and program editing.
- Set tooling, offsets, speeds and feeds and perform first-part prove-outs.
- Operate manual lathes, mills, drills and other conventional machine shop equipment when required.
- Review engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances and manufacturing requirements.
- Determine appropriate machining methods, tooling and setups.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, dimensional and part fit/function issues.
- Purchase and organize cutting tools, inserts, holders and other machine shop supplies.
- Identify opportunities to improve machining methods, tooling, setup times and production efficiency.
- Coordinate closely with Sales, QC and Warehouse personnel regarding production requirements, material and scheduling.
- Assist with the upkeep and general maintenance of machine shop equipment.
- Provide training and technical assistance to other machinists when required.
- Machine and manufacture components as required, this is a working Foreman position, not strictly a supervisory role.
Qualifications
- Journeyperson Machinist / Red Seal preferred; equivalent extensive machining experience will also be considered.
- Strong CNC machining background, particularly CNC lathes.
- Experience setting up CNC machines independently from drawing to finished part.
- Ability to write, modify and troubleshoot general CNC programs.
- Haas and Fanuc control experience preferred.
- Strong manual machining skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and manufacturing drawings.
- Positive understanding of machining tolerances, tooling, speeds and feeds.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Previous Foreman, Lead Hand or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Ability to organize multiple jobs and changing production priorities.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with Sales, QC, Warehouse and machining personnel.
- Experience machining flanges, fittings, pipe components or other oil and gas/PVF products is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement concepts is an asset.
CNC Programming We are not looking for an advanced CNC programmer or manufacturing engineer. The successful candidate should be comfortable with everyday shop-floor CNC programming, editing programs, offsets, tooling changes, speeds and feeds, setup and troubleshooting.
Additional consideration may be given to candidates with extensive CNC programming, oil and gas/PVF machining and supervisory experience.
We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
Pay: $38.00-$41.00 per hour
