Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe DB2 & IMS Database Administrator with 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting and administering DB2 and IMS databases in a z/OS mainframe environment. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in database maintenance, backup and recovery, image copy management, DBRC operations, space monitoring, and environment rebuild activities.

The candidate should also be proficient in CLIST, REXX, and SAS automation, with experience developing, maintaining, and enhancing scripts, panels, operational utilities, and automation processes supporting test environments.

Key Responsibilities

DB2 & IMS Database Administration

- Perform day-to-day administration and maintenance of DB2 and IMS databases in a mainframe environment.
- Maintain and support DB2 and IMS image copy, backup, and recovery jobs.
- Manage IMS DBRC operations and recovery processes.
- Maintain and monitor IMS Analyzer jobs.
- Perform creation, initialization, backup, restoration, and migration of IMS and DB2 databases.
- Monitor database space utilization and proactively identify capacity issues.
- Schedule and coordinate database REORG, expansion, and maintenance activities.
- Troubleshoot database-related issues and provide operational support.

Setting Rebuilds & Migration

- Create and coordinate project plans, checklists, and activities required for mainframe test environment rebuilds.
- Perform IMS backup and restore using DBRC and IMS database recovery utilities.




- Support FP and FF database initialization activities.
- Perform DB2 backup, unload, reload, and recovery activities.
- Create and manage VSAM files, including loading, unloading, and path file creation.
- Coordinate database rebuild and restoration activities across IMS, DB2, and VSAM environments.
- Validate rebuilt environments and ensure databases are available and operational.
- Support database migration and environment refresh activities.

Automation & Software Support

- Maintain and enhance CLIST, REXX, and SAS automation panels and scripts supporting test environments.
- Develop and maintain automation for environment rebuild, promotion, cleanup, and deployment processes.
- Enhance existing automation utilities to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual activities.
- Develop operational tools and utilities to improve test-environment management and support procedures.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive database administration and environment management activities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to automation scripts and operational utilities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

- 5+ years of experience in Mainframe database administration.
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM DB2 and IMS databases.
- Experience with DB2 backup, unload,



reload, recovery, and database maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of IMS DBRC, backup/recovery, image copies, and database utilities.
- Experience with IMS Analyzer jobs.
- Hands-on experience with database space monitoring, REORG, and database expansion.
- Experience performing IMS and DB2 database creation and restoration.
- Strong experience with VSAM file creation, loading, unloading, and path file management.
- Proficiency in CLIST, REXX, and SAS.
- Experience developing and enhancing automation scripts, panels, and operational utilities.
- Experience supporting mainframe test workplace rebuilds and refreshes.
- Strong knowledge of z/OS mainframe environments.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to coordinate technical activities and work effectively with application, infrastructure, and testing teams.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise mainframe environments.
- Experience with JCL and mainframe utilities.
- Knowledge of Endevor or other mainframe change-management tools is an asset.
- Experience with automation and DevOps-oriented modernization initiatives is preferred.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently in a hybrid environment.
