Senior Maintenance Technician

Position Summary

Atlantic Braids Ltd. (ABL), part of Vertical Supply Group Canada, is seeking an experienced and hands-on Senior Maintenance Technician to support our manufacturing operations in Hawkesbury, Ontario.

The Senior Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving production equipment, machinery, and facility systems. This position plays a critical role in minimizing downtime, improving equipment reliability, supporting production targets, and developing a strong preventative maintenance program.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving mechanical problems, takes ownership of equipment performance, and can work independently while supporting the broader production team.

Hours of Work & Availability

- This is a full-time position; however, work hours will vary based on operational and maintenance requirements.
- The Senior Maintenance Technician will be required to provide maintenance support across both day and evening production shifts.
- Flexibility to adjust working hours is an important requirement of the position to ensure appropriate maintenance coverage across the operation.
- Evening and weekend work will be required when necessary, including for preventative maintenance, equipment installations, major repairs, planned shutdowns, and urgent operational requirements.
- The position may require responding to unexpected equipment breakdowns outside of the employee's regular scheduled hours.
- Scheduling will be coordinated with management wherever reasonably possible; however, flexibility is essential due to the nature of the role and the needs of a manufacturing operation.

Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Maintenance & Repair
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and other equipment issues.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on production machinery and supporting equipment.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
- Identify root causes of recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Complete equipment adjustments, installations, modifications, and upgrades as required.
- Work closely with Production Supervisors and operators to identify and resolve equipment concerns.
- Ensure equipment is returned to safe operating condition following repairs.

Preventative Maintenance
- Develop, maintain, and execute a structured preventative maintenance program for production equipment and facility systems.
- Establish appropriate maintenance frequencies and schedules for machinery.
- Complete scheduled inspections, lubrication, adjustments, replacements, and servicing.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service histories, and equipment documentation.
- Identify equipment approaching the end of its useful life and provide recommendations regarding repair, replacement, or upgrades.




- Monitor recurring breakdowns and identify opportunities to improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
- Schedule preventative maintenance, where appropriate, during non-production hours to minimize disruption to operations.

Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, safety, and productivity.
- Participate in equipment and process improvement projects.
- Assist with the installation and commissioning of recent equipment.
- Recommend equipment modifications or upgrades that could reduce downtime or improve production.
- Support 5S, continuous improvement, and preventative maintenance initiatives throughout the facility.
- Work with management to prioritize maintenance projects based on operational requirements.

Parts & Inventory Management
- Maintain an organized inventory of critical spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies.
- Identify critical components that should be kept in stock to reduce downtime.
- Assist with sourcing parts, obtaining quotes, and coordinating with suppliers and external service providers.
- Ensure maintenance tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored.

Training & Knowledge Sharing
- Provide technical guidance and support to production employees regarding equipment operation and basic maintenance.
- Assist with training designated employees on routine equipment inspections and basic troubleshooting.
- Document important equipment procedures and troubleshooting information.
- Help build maintenance knowledge within the organization to reduce reliance on individual employees or external contractors.

Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Perform all work in accordance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), company policies, and established safety procedures.
- Follow appropriate lockout/tagout procedures when servicing or repairing machinery.
- Identify and report equipment or workplace hazards.
- Ensure machine guards and safety devices are properly installed and functioning following maintenance.
- Participate in workplace inspections, safety initiatives, and corrective actions as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance workspace.
- Ensure contractors performing maintenance work follow ABL safety requirements.

Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
- Experience maintaining industrial production machinery.
- Working knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
- Experience with motors, bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, sensors,



and similar industrial components.
- Ability to read equipment manuals, schematics, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Welding and fabrication experience is considered an asset.
- Experience developing or managing preventative maintenance programs is an asset.
- Millwright, Industrial Mechanic, Electrician, or related trade certification is considered a strong asset but may not be required depending on experience.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment with older or customized machinery is considered an asset.

Physical Requirements The position may require:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Bending, reaching, climbing, and working in different positions while servicing equipment.
- Working around industrial machinery and production equipment.
- Safely lifting and moving tools, parts, and equipment.
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Working evenings or weekends when required to support maintenance and operational needs.
