Nuts for Cheese is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to support the daily mechanical needs of our operations. This role is responsible for troubleshooting and solving daily equipment issues, maintaining our preventive maintenance program to ensure smooth operations and working with equipment suppliers to build our maintenance program. This individual will also participate in the design, purchasing and installation of new equipment and expansion initiatives.
The successful candidate should have knowledge related to pneumatic systems, packaging machinery, and sanitation requirements for a BRCGS AA food facility. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment and takes pride in minimizing downtime while maintaining strict food safety and sanitation standards.
Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Maintenance Technician will be responsible for:
- Perform routine inspections, lubrication, belt/chain adjustments, sensor calibration, and component replacement per PM schedules.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production and packaging equipment.
- Diagnose and repair daily equipment issues on pneumatic systems and packaging equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control issues on packaging lines to minimize downtime and maximize throughput.
- Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns during production runs and implement effective, lasting solutions (not just quick fixes).
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and parts inventory.
- Fabricate or modify parts and guarding as required to support shop floor health and safety requirements.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with food safety, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and BRCGS standards.
- Support sanitation crews by properly disassembling/reassembling equipment for cleaning.
- Assist with installation and commissioning of current or upgraded equipment.
- Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend improvements to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including the maintenance shop and parts storage.
- Participate in on-call and after-hours/weekend equipment emergencies, as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from a post secondary institution with a focus on mechanical, industrial maintenance or related field.
- 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience, ideally in food/beverage or other regulated manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing equipment in a food manufacturing environment.
- Experience with packaging equipment (pneumatic, thermoforming, gas flushing and packing equipment.)
- Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Familiarity with lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and general plant safety practices.
- Basic computer skills including MS office applications.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in elevated spaces as needed.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts to support production needs.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
