Summary: The Maintenance Technician I is a program support position that is under the daily supervision of the Housing/Public Works Manager with overall accountability to the Director of Operations. He/She would be responsible for providing daily maintenance services which would include the following: minor maintenance and renovations services to all community buildings and residential units under the Housing/Public Works Department; keeping and inventory of all materials and equipment; as well as assist in the preventative maintenance tasks in the public buildings and grounds.
The Maintenance Technician II Must:
- Have a minimum of Grade 12 or the equivalent;
- Possess considerable knowledge of effective maintenance, carpentry techniques and preventative maintenance measures according to the National Building Code of Canada;
- Have a minimum of three to five (3-5) years of experience in general maintenance, carpentry and knowledge of the mechanical operation of community water and sanitation systems;
- Maintain all certification as it pertains to WHIMIS, Occupational Health & Safety, and SCOTS;
- Be familiar and able to operate with various types of equipment such as: backhoe, bobcat,
and any other power tools necessary to perform minor maintenance tasks;
- Be able to assist in a regular preventative maintenance program for community buildings;
- Possess the ability to monitor and repair electrical, plumbing, and heating ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC);
- Possess the skill to perform minor mathematical calculations for estimating and sizing purposes;
- Possess excellent communication skills both oral and written to deal effectively with employees, band membership, the public and leadership;
- Possess the ability to take direction and work with minimum supervision;
- Be well organized, punctual, dependable, reliable and ensure confidentiality;
- Be prepared to work flexible schedule when needed;
- Possess a valid driver license and own a reliable vehicle; and,
- Submit a Criminal Background Check with application
