About RIC Power Corporation
RIC Power Corp. designs and manufactures medium-voltage switchgear solutions for utilities, industrial facilities, and infrastructure projects where safety, reliability, and performance are critical. Our focus is on delivering engineered-to-order systems, including metal-enclosed, metal-clad, and arc-resistant switchgear, tailored to the unique requirements of each application.
About the Role The Material Handling Manager leads the material handling and logistics operations at RIC Power. Managing a focused warehouse team through the Material Handling Lead, this role owns the in-house material lifecycle—from receiving and inventory control, through kitting, to the final coordination of finished goods shipments to customers. This is a hands-on role: the Manager is expected to physically execute warehouse work alongside the team as needed, particularly to help clear backlogs, get the floor into a good working state, or cover during absences.
The Manager ensures that all material handling and logistics activities support production schedules, safety standards, and quality requirements while driving operational efficiency.
Logistics & Inventory Operations:
- Manage the daily workflow of the material handling team, via the Material Handling Lead, to ensure materials are received, inspected, and kitted for production without delay.
- Physically execute hands-on warehouse work — receiving, put-away, kitting, shipping, and cycle counts — as needed to clear backlogs, resolve bottlenecks, and get the floor into a good working state.
- Step in to perform the full range of Material Handling Lead and Material Handler duties to cover absences or peak-volume periods without disruption to production.
- Oversee the physical preparation, crating, and loading of finished switchgear to ensure product safety.
Collaborate with Project Coordination to verify that shipping documentation is accurate and carrier pickups align with warehouse operations.
- Maintain strict inventory control through regular cycle counts and annual physical inventories, ensuring high accuracy levels for both raw materials and consumables.
- Optimize warehouse layout and kitting processes to minimize handling time and improve shop floor efficiency.
- Champion safety within the material handling area, ensuring all equipment (forklifts, racking) is maintained and operated according to safety standards.
- Oversee the accuracy of ERP inventory data (bin locations, stock levels, kit staging) to support reliable production scheduling.
Departmental Management:
- Manage and develop the Material Handling Lead, providing direction on daily warehouse priorities, KPI performance, and escalated issues.
- Support ISO/QMS requirements by maintaining up-to-date material handling and inventory procedures.
- Resolve elevated freight, carrier, and logistics issues, and escalate significant Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as required.
- Set and monitor department KPIs (inventory accuracy, kitting accuracy, on-time shipping, safety) and review results reported by the Material Handling Lead.
- Manage the performance and development of the Material Handling Lead, who directly supervises the Material Handler(s).
- Set individual and team targets that align with company KPIs (e.g., inventory accuracy, shipping timeliness, safety compliance).
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching/mentorship, and manage disciplinary actions or terminations when required.
Required Education and Training
- Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Business is preferred, but an equivalent combination of industry experience and training will be accepted.
- Internal Knowledge: Solid working knowledge of RIC Power's existing product lines, ERP workflows, and production processes is highly valued.
- 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Valid forklift operator certification is required, as the role includes hands-on execution and coverage of warehouse duties.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and operate material handling equipment.
- Experience in Lieu of Education: 5+ years of progressive experience in warehouse operations, material handling, or logistics within a manufacturing environment.
- Systems Expertise: Solid understanding of ERP/inventory management systems and how they integrate with Production and Project Coordination.
- Leadership: Ability to manage and motivate a lean, floor-based team through a working lead.
- Data Analysis: Ability to interpret KPIs (inventory accuracy, on-time delivery) to drive decision-making.
- Problem Solving: Rapidly addresses logistics and warehouse disruptions to minimize impact on production.
- QMS/ISO Knowledge: Familiarity with quality audits and material handling procedures.
- Process Improvement: Ability to optimize warehouse layout, kitting workflows, and material flow for efficiency.
