Canobi AgTech Inc. designs and manufactures advanced vertical farming systems, hydroponic platforms, and IoT-enabled automation solutions for agriculture. We work with clients across Canada and internationally, including active deployments in Western Canada and the Middle East.
About the Role
This position is part of the Youth Employment Program. We're looking for a recent graduate in Mechanical or Industrial Design Engineering to join our product development team, covering 3D design, mechanical/industrial design, and prototyping support for our vertical farming and hydroponic systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and modify 3D CAD models and technical drawings for equipment, enclosures, racking systems, and automation components
- Contribute to industrial design of product housings, panels, and user-facing components, balancing manufacturability with form and usability
- Support design iterations based on prototype testing and field feedback
- Prepare bills of materials (BOMs) and technical documentation for manufacturing and procurement
- Assist with tolerance analysis, materials selection, and DFM (design for manufacturability) considerations
- Collaborate with the operations team on assembly and installation requirements
- Support troubleshooting of mechanical issues on deployed systems
- Contribute to R&D; documentation
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or diploma) in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a closely related field, recently completed
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent)
- Solid understanding of engineering drawing standards
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple project priorities
Youth Employment Program Eligibility This role is offered as part of the NRC IRAP Youth Employment Program, and candidates must meet the program's eligibility criteria in order to be considered, including:
- Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- A recent post-secondary graduate (university, college, CEGEP, or equivalent)
- A Canadian citizen, permanent resident
- Legally entitled to work in Ontario
- A first-time participant in a Youth Employment and Skills Strategy work experience program
Nice to Have
- Interest or coursework in agricultural technology, controlled environment agriculture, or automation
- Familiarity with IoT-integrated hardware systems
- Exposure to prototyping tools (3D printing, basic fabrication)
