Overview The role of the Lab Technician is an integral part of the Lab Medicine team. This is a multi-skilled position which contributes to the overall efficiency of Lab Medicine by ensuring effective patient focused care. A core of 3-4 lab technicians are required to support autopsy services.

The Lab Technician's role provides support in the various areas of Lab Medicine such as Pathology, Chemistry, Haematology/Immunohaematology, Microbiology and Specimen Procurement.

This support is provided by: performing technical support duties, clerical duties, and other duties as required.

Education

- Lab Assistant/Technician diploma, preferably O.S.M.T. certificate

Qualifications

- Must be able to follow directions, work under pressure, meet deadlines,

organize/prioritize work, and work independently
- Must have a good working relationship with co-workers, professional staff

and other hospital staff
- Blood collection and ECG experience preferred
- Previous experience as a lab assistant in a hospital setting preferred
- Able to process data, enter data into computer system
- Knowledge of Soft Lab computer system preferred
- Ability to prepare specimens for analysis
- Experience in autopsy, pathology and microbiology preferred
- Positive communication skills and interpersonal skills essential
- Good work and attendance record required
