Job Overview
Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Canada is recruiting a field‑based Medical Science Liaison – Neuroscience to join our Medical Affairs team. The role serves as the scientific point of contact for key opinion leaders (KOLs) in the assigned territory and supports the company’s scientific strategy in neuroscience.
Purpose
The Medical Science Liaison is accountable for executing the field medical plan, presenting clinical and scientific data to KOLs, building relationships with healthcare professionals, attending scientific meetings, supporting investigator‑initiated studies and clinical development programmes, collaborating with cross‑functional teams, and providing medical perspective to influence the strategic plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain scientific expertise to translate data into an applicable knowledge and communication platform.
- Present and disseminate clinical and scientific data to KOLs and other HCPs, individually or in group settings.
- Build trusted relationships with KOLs and HCPs, based on scientific credibility and transparent engagement plans.
- Attend relevant scientific meetings/conferences and develop summaries of key data and insights.
- Gather and communicate insights from key individuals (KIs) to support and progress therapeutic area strategy.
- Lead or participate in medical and scientific forums (e.g., advisory boards and medical education events) where KIs are involved.
- Support investigator‑initiated studies, local and global clinical development programmes,
and medical projects within the therapeutic area.
- Collaborate with and provide expert clinical support to business partners (Market Access, Medical Education, Sales and Marketing, etc.).
- Provide regional medical perspective to influence the Medical Affairs strategic plan.
- Support the Medical publication plan.
Qualifications
- Advanced scientific degree required (PhD, PharmD, or MD preferred).
- Fluency in English (written, verbal) is required; bilingual English and French is an asset.
- Relevant experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and/or healthcare environment is highly preferred.
- Previous experience as a Medical Science Liaison preferred.
- Preferred background in neuroscience; ability to acquire expertise in other therapeutic areas.
- Previous experience establishing and engaging medical expert/opinion leader networks.
- Proven ability to learn quickly and distill large amounts of information.
- Experience in presentation of scientific/clinical research publications and ability to communicate data concisely.
- Scientific curiosity and interest in staying current with emerging data and trends within the therapeutic area.
- Demonstrated critical thinking, project management skills, and ability to influence decision‑making with stakeholders.
- Experience managing clinical/scientific programmes autonomously, including from study concept to publication.
- Business acumen,
including prioritisation skills and big‑picture orientation.
- Ability to take initiative, prioritise tasks, and follow through in a field‑based role.
- Strong knowledge of GCP, IMC code, and Healthcare Compliance, with familiarity with SOPs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.).
- Ability to travel up to 70% of the time within Canada; valid driver’s licence and passport required.
- Demonstrated commitment to learning emerging technologies such as AI.
