Medical Transportation Driver

Department: Stoney Health Services (SHS)

Location: Morley, Alberta (travel throughout the region required)

Reports To: Medical Transportation Coordinator / Health Services Manager

Position Summary The Medical Transportation Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation services to clients attending medical appointments, treatments, and other approved health-related services. The incumbent plays an important role in ensuring clients arrive at their destinations safely, on time, and with dignity while providing excellent customer service and maintaining confidentiality.

The Medical Transportation Driver represents Stoney Health Services and is expected to demonstrate professionalism, respect, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to client-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

· Safely transport clients to and from medical appointments, hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and other approved healthcare destinations.

· Assist clients with entering and exiting the vehicle as required, including those with mobility challenges.

· Ensure clients are transported in a respectful, courteous, and compassionate manner.

· Plan routes to ensure timely arrival at appointments.

· Complete daily vehicle inspections and report any maintenance or safety concerns promptly.

· Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure vehicles are safe and presentable at all times.

· Keep accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and client documentation.

· Follow all applicable traffic laws, safety regulations, and organizational policies.





· Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with privacy legislation and SHS policies.

· Communicate effectively with clients, healthcare providers, and SHS staff regarding schedules or changes.

· Assist with scheduling adjustments when delays or emergencies occur.

· Respond appropriately to emergencies and report incidents according to organizational procedures.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

· High School Diploma or equivalent.

· Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).

Experience

· Experience providing transportation services, preferably in a healthcare or community setting.

· Experience working with Indigenous communities is considered an asset.

· Experience assisting seniors, persons with disabilities, or individuals with medical needs is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

· Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

· Strong communication skills.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality.

· Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

· Strong knowledge of Alberta roadways and safe driving practices.

· Ability to assist clients with varying mobility and health needs.

· Basic record-keeping and documentation skills.

· Ability to remain calm and qualified in stressful situations.





· Demonstrated cultural awareness and respect for Indigenous cultures and traditions.

Requirements

· Valid Alberta Class 4 or Class 2S Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract.

· Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.

· Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and assist clients with mobility when required.

· Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays as operationally required.

Working Conditions

· Frequent driving throughout Alberta.

· Extended periods of sitting.

· Exposure to varying weather and road conditions.

· Regular interaction with clients experiencing illness, injury, or mobility limitations.

· Occasional lifting, bending, and assisting clients.
