Role Description:
Commission members participate in the collective governance and oversight of the municipal police service. Members contribute to establishing police service priorities and policies, allocating and overseeing the use of funds provided by municipal council, monitoring organizational performance and accountability, overseeing the chief of police, and considering community needs and perspectives in commission decision-making.
Members are expected to prepare for and participate actively in commission meetings, review complex and sometimes sensitive information, exercise independent judgment, contribute constructively to collective decisions, maintain confidentiality where required, and act in the public interest.
