Rainy River
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River mine, located adjacent to the Ontario/Minnesota border is 65 kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.
Applicants who reside in Northwestern Ontario and have experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the Northwest Ontario, are assets. About The Role

Position Reports To: Senior Mine Supervisor
Preference will be given to local applicants or candidates willing to relocate to the area.
Position Overview The Mine Shift Supervisor plays an integral role in ensuring safe, efficient, and productive day-to-day operations within the open pit mine and stockpile areas. Working closely with the Senior Mine Supervisor, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing mining activities while leading a designated crew on the same shift schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise surface mining personnel to ensure safe and efficient mining operations.
- Promote a strong safety culture through dependable leadership, open communication, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Conduct regular field inspections to identify and address health and safety, environmental, production, equipment, and personnel concerns.
- Monitor, track, and report all safety key performance indicators (KPIs) in a timely manner.
- Ensure employees are adequately trained and informed of the risks of the work they undertake.
- Support employee development by ensuring adequate training for current responsibilities and future growth.
- Ensure employees clearly understand work objectives, performance expectations, and operational priorities.
- Plan, organize, and control daily mining activities in alignment with the mine plan, ensuring that earthworks conform to the issued engineered designs.
- Ensure production targets, schedules, and operational priorities are achieved safely and effectively.
- Support the achievement of production goals while maintaining cost-effective operations.
- Communicate daily priorities and operational changes to mining team.
- Enforce company policies and procedures, including attendance, leave management, and vacation scheduling.
- Maintain safety and environmental management systems in accordance with company standards.
- Collaborate with the Technical Services, Maintenance, Training, Health and Safety and Contractor teams.
- Assist Human Resources and management with recruitment and hiring activities.
- Partner with Human Resources on employee relations matters and workplace investigations.
- Ensure all incidents are appropriately investigated, reported, and entered into the incident management software
- Manage employee leave requests, roster updates, and exception reporting.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years of mining experience or experience in a comparable industrial environment, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Positive attitude with a strong commitment to safety and drive for continuous improvement.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment to meet operational deadlines.
- Experience in one or more mining related fields (drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, dewatering, road construction, and/or waste dump development) is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of open pit mining methods, equipment capabilities, and production processes.
- Strong planning, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Thorough knowledge of mining safety standards, environmental requirements, and operational procedures.
- Working knowledge of applicable Ontario mining legislation and regulations.
- Possess, or be able to obtain, Ontario Surface Mining Common Core Modules.
- Possess, or be able to obtain, Ontario Generic Supervisor Common Core Modules.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification
- G Level or Equivalent Driver’s License
The anticipated based salary for this position will be between $125,000 to $140,000.
