Working within the Mission, Vision and Values of Wing Kei Montessori, this position will be responsible for the safety, care and support of the development of the whole child while providing a respectful and nurturing environment.

Qualifications:

- Montessori Guide Training - an accredited Montessori Training Centre (MACTE, AMI or AMS)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood, or a related discipline is recommended
- Early Childcare Educator Certificate (ECE level 1) or above
- 2-3 years of work experience in an Early Childhood Learning/Care Program is recommended
- Valid Child Care First Aid/CPR certificate
- Food Handler certification (approved by the province of Alberta)

Language Requirement: Fluency in English (oral and written); knowledge of a second language such as Chinese (Mandarin / Cantonese) is an asset.

Responsibilities:

● Observe behaviours and needs, model grace and courtesy, prepare lessons, assist in the development of the whole child, and instill independence.

a. Observe, guide and assess children in their environment.

b. Incorporate learning experiences to foster children’s intellectual, social, emotional, and behavioural development;

c. Lead children in indoor/outdoor activities in accordance with Montessori and Early Childhood Education Programs d. Attend to the physical needs of children; guide and assist in developing self-help skills such as washing, dressing, toileting, and eating

- Create and maintain a safe, clean and stimulating environment where all children feel safe and valued.
- Provide lessons focusing on the individual child and their needs.
- Establish rapport and build relationships with children and their families based on respect; work collaboratively with children, families, and staff.
- Record keeping:



monitor and assess children’s progress and write reports.
- Communicate to parents the child’s development and progress; lead parent meetings.
- Work in an informative and professional manner; respect confidentiality and privacy.
- Model courteous and respectful behaviour.
- Be flexible and adapt to the changing needs of children and the environment.
- Support ongoing evaluation and improvement of programs; participate in special events/celebrations and/or committee and monthly meetings; keep Administration advised of pertinent information.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and observe all policies, procedures and guidelines of Wing Kei Montessori.
- Manage records; report accidents/incidents and serious occurrences; monitor children’s health, record and report on illnesses and special health conditions.
- Monitor/manage program supplies; safe and proper handling of all equipment and material.
- Maintain and disinfect materials/toys and activity areas; perform other housekeeping duties as needed; give immediate attention to any health and safety hazards.
- Maintain own Career development to keep current with Early Childhood and Montessori pedagogy.
- As needed, provide training/job shadowing to others who are assisting and volunteering.
- Maintain a safe environment and minimize the risk by following Health and Safety Guidelines; participate in response training: Fire (Code Red), Emergency Evacuation (Code Green), Internal Lock-down (Code Purple), Missing Child (Code Yellow); and WHMIS training.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands: Considerable standing, walking, lifting (up to 35lbs) and bending. Working Condition: Exposure to all child care elements through regular contact with children
