The Rooms, Newfoundland and Labrador
Reporting to the Visitor Services and Volunteer Supervisor this position provides front line customer service and general reception to adults, children, tourists and large and small groups.
The Museum
Interpreter I provides information about exhibitions, programs, events, tickets, and memberships. POS, cash handling and reconciliation experience is an asset. This position also conducts weekly guided tours about The Rooms exhibitions and private tours as prearranged.
The Museum
Interpreter I works closely with other staff and volunteers to support The Rooms public and education programs and will be a valuable member of the Visitor Services team. Interpreters must be skilled and have excellent communication and presentation skills and demonstrate knowledge and good judgment in matters of policy, procedure and confidentiality. Other related duties as required.
Screening Criteria
1. Experience providing front-line customer service
2. Experience working with the public in a retail setting,
museum, art gallery or archives
3. Experience with POS systems, cash counting/handling, reconciliation
4. Experience working with and delivering tours, programs and events for children/adults/seniors
5. Post secondary coursework in history, heritage, folklore, NL studies, museum studies, education, Indigenous studies, theatre and fine arts.

2. Knowledge of receipting, handling and reconciliation processes related to monetary transactions
3. Knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador history
4. Ability to communicate effectively
