Summary of Position
Abalone Construction is a privately owned company with over 40 years specializing in Industrial and Commercial civil construction. We offer construction services in a variety of markets including Infrastructure, Roadbuilding, and Land Development.
Reporting to the foreman, operators are an integral member of field operations, responsible for providing support on all of our projects.
Role and Responsibilities
Operate and maintain equipment in a safe and productive manner, responsible for minor maintenance and daily inspections
Establish and maintain haul roads
Support stripping operations of existing surfaces – topsoil and aggregates
Perform excavation for topsoil stripping rough grading, final grading, culvert installation, trenching, truck loading, concrete and asphalt removal
Follow marks on grade stakes or hand signals.
Level soil, rock and debris
Ability to work under minimal supervision to perform final grade of common / subgrade and aggregate surfaces
Ability to work off of survey layout (grade stakes) along with support from gradesman, placing materials within the required tolerance
Material conditioning (drying)
Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications, Training and Education
Must have minimum 3-5 seasons of grader or excavator experience in road construction / ponds / berms / land development. Demonstrate the ability to finish and work in congested areas / around other contractors
Gradesman experience is considered an asset
Must have valid CSTS 2020, WHMIS 2015, Ground Disturbance 201 (endorsed by USP) and CSA approved 6” steel toe work boots
Hard working, with a positive attitude & a Willingness to learn
Desire to complete tasks in a timely manner
Personal vehicle and valid driver’s license required
Working Conditions
Operators will be working outside in all weather conditions. They must be able to spend long periods of time sitting in their vehicle, or walking/standing on the job site. They must be willing to commit to 50 + hours per week at various project locations. Typical shifts are 7:00am - 5:30pm.
