The Nurse Practitioner – Adult will work in partnership with the medical specialists and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide advanced nursing care and perform medical acts to support a population of patients with malignant hematological problems, on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
The Nurse Practitioner will also play a significant role in the education and counseling of patients and families, and in research activities related to the refinement of evidence-based practice. The NP provides direct patient care about 80%25 of the time, and participates in patient population related education, research/quality improvement initiatives and consultation activities the remainder of the time.
- Completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing or a recognized equivalent graduate program.
- Current certification of registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in extended class category.
- Minimum of 5 years recent clinical nursing experience in stem cell and bone marrow transplant activity.
- Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to function independently.
- Demonstrated ability to be adaptable and adapt positively constantly changing clinical situations.
- Demonstrated clinical research expertise.
- Knowledge and experience in change theory and adult learning principles.
- Effective organizational, conceptual and leadership skills.
- Effective advanced skills and competencies in interpersonal relations, critical thinking and problem solving, and negotiation and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to engage in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) intiatives.
- Active membership in professional nursing association(s) (RNAO, CANO)
