Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Ophthalmic Technician to join our growing practice. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with a passion for clinical excellence. You will work closely with the Ophthalmologist to ensure efficient patient flow while providing high-quality diagnostic data and clinical assessment. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and values working with the latest ophthalmic technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Work-ups: Perform comprehensive preliminary patient work-ups, including visual acuity, intraocular pressure (Tonopen/Goldmann), and auto-refraction.
- Medical History: Accurately document patient clinical and medical histories within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Diagnostic Imaging: Conduct advanced diagnostic testing, including OCT scans, Humphrey Visual Field Testing, Topography, Fundus Photography, Optical Biometry, and A-scan ultrasounds.
- Patient Flow: Proactively manage clinic flow to ensure a seamless and positive experience for patients.
- Surgical Support:
Assist with minor chair-side procedures and maintaining sterile environments for in-office treatments.
- Administration: Assist with essential administrative tasks, including patient inquiries (calls/emails), triage referrals, and booking consults and/or follow-up appointments when necessary.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: Previous experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or in a similar ophthalmology/optometry setting is preferred.
- Certification: COA, COT, or COMT certification is considered a significant asset.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong command of modern ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and EMR systems.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a focus on compassionate, patient-centered care.
- Adaptability: A "foundational" mindset—reliable, professional, and eager to contribute ideas to a new clinical environment and work harmoniously with other team members.
