Firefighter (Paid On Call) – Station 1

The Town of Current Tecumseth is looking for dedicated individuals who are interested in contributing to their community by becoming a Paid On Call Firefighter. Firefighters provide fire suppression, rescue, and other related emergency services, and participate in programs designed for the prevention of fires, educating the public on fire and life safety behaviours, the saving of lives and the protection of property and the environment. Firefighters are responsible for rapidly, efficiently, and safely performing various duties under emergency conditions frequently involving considerable hazards. Firefighters participate in fire prevention, public education, training, and other departmental programs, perform various routine duties, including the maintenance of firefighting vehicles, equipment, and fire service facilities.
Firefighters are required to perform some administrative tasks including completing logs, forms, witness statements, station records, and other reports that may be required. Successful candidates must be available to attend scheduled recruit training, monthly training sessions, emergency responses, and departmental events.
Eligibility Requirements:
Experienced/Certified Track
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II and NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Operations certifications (IFSAC or ProBoard)
- Minimum two (2) years of verified active firefighting experience with a municipal, composite, volunteer, paid-on-call, or industrial fire service.
- Successful completion of the FPAT through Ready4Rescue, or current OFAI Stage 3
Certified Track
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II and NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Operations certifications (IFSAC or ProBoard)
- Successful completion of the FPAT through Ready4Rescue, or current OFAI Stage 3
Recruit Track
- Successful completion of the FPAT through Ready4Rescue, or current OFAI Stage 3
All Tracks
- Successful completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid G class driver’s licence,
and the ability to submit a clean driver’s abstract upon hire.
- Ability to obtain a DZ driver’s licence within 1 year of successfully completing probation.
- Ability to provide a clean Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) upon hire.
- Must live in the municipality. Proximity of location to Fire Station to respond to calls promptly.
- Availability to meet and/or exceed department targets for training & responses.
Preferred Qualifications:
- DZ driver’s licence (a requirement to complete within 1 year of successfully completing probation).
- Previous firefighting experience.
- Standard First Aid with CPR-C and Defibrillation.
- Construction or building experience.
- Experience operating heavy equipment or driving commercial vehicles.
- Ability to respond during business hours (daytime availability is an asset).
Ready4Rescue Testing Information Please note that candidate FPAT testing is completed through Ready4Rescue. All fees associated with testing and certification are the responsibility of the candidate.
Successful completion of the required Ready4Rescue candidate testing components is required to progress to the interview stage (If a candidate can provide a valid current OFAI Stage 3, they will not be required to complete the FPAT).
The FPAT is a modular Fireground Performance and Assessment Test.

- The selected candidates to move forward in the recruitment will be notified and asked to select a time slot to attend the FPAT on Saturday September 26 for testing.
- Successful Candidates will be required to attend Town hall to pay the $200.00 FPAT testing fee to participate further in the recruitment and on the FPAT testing day.
- Review all assessment information, and testing requirements provided by Ready4Rescue before attending the FPAT testing date – Saturday Sept 26th, 2026
Submission of Results Candidates who successfully pass the application screening stage will be invited to attend the Ready4Rescue Fireground Performance Assessment Test (FPAT) on September 26th, 2026. Successful completion of the FPAT is required to advance in the process.

Starting Wage Rate: $25.09 (Recruit Track) $26.34 (Experienced/Certified and Certified Tracks) plus 4% vacation pay
Station Location: 130 Church Street South, Alliston
Start Date: November 7th, 2026
