Part-Time Disability Tax Advocate (Tax AID DABC) Program

Hours: 3 days a week: 21 hours per week

Wage: $23.00/hr

About the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society:

The Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society has been in operation for over 50 years. We are proud to live, work and play in the traditional, ancestral, and unceded tmxʷúlaʔxʷ (land) of the syilx / Okanagan people. Our Friendship Society is committed to helping provide support in culture, shelter, health, education, employment, life skills and training to our Indigenous communities in an inclusive environment.

The position:

Partnered with Disability Alliance BC, the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society delivers the Disability Advocacy Program to improve access to federal disability benefits for underserved populations across the Interior region. The program focuses primarily on the Disability Tax Credit (DTC), Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP), Canada Child Benefit Disability Supplement, and Canada Workers Benefit Disability Supplement.

A key pillar of the program is outreach, with the goal of increasing accessibility by collaborating with local Indigenous communities and engaging with community service agencies throughout the Interior.

Key Responsibilities:

- Respond to in-person, phone, and email inquiries from individuals and community organizations by providing clear information, guidance, and support regarding federal disability advantages.
- Interview clients and assist in preparing and drafting DTC applications.
- Provide advocacy and support when clients are engaging with medical professionals.
- Support clients with application submission processes.
- Assist clients with appeal processes in cases of denial.




- Participate in outreach initiatives across the Interior region.
- Increase awareness of disability benefit programs by facilitating educational sessions for staff and clients of community organizations

Qualifications:

- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe software.
- Ability to interpret and translate information across contexts, including medical and tax-related.
- Self-initiative and creative problem-solving skills to establish and maintain outreach partnerships.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while being adaptable and eager to learn.
- Be detail-oriented, ensuring accurate and organized work.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care or experience working with vulnerable populations considered an asset.
- Communicate effectively and build rapport with individuals with disabilities.
- Be empathetic, patient, and approachable
