We are seeking a compassionate , thoughtful and energetic Part-Time Support Person to join to assist a hardworking, mature man in his home and within his community. This is a self-employed Independent Contract Supportive Assistant position. The family is currently looking for coverage 5- 10 hours per week at a rate of pay of $21-23 an hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Having access to a reliable mode of transportation and within reasonable driving distance would be an asst.
This role would be best suited for someone who is flexible, reliable and can provide thoughtful and sensitive accompaniment as the person is independent, has employment and drives. A focus will be “bridging to the community” to strengthen the person’s roles in the community thereby expanding his opportunities for greater socialization, and contribution. As his supportive assistant, you possess a willingness to learn, have strong observation and communication skills and can follow the lead and direction of the person and his family.
Areas where support is needed include:
The role of the Personal Assistant would be to assist the person in living in his own home and community by providing support to:
· Increase his proficiency in technology
· Strengthen his ability to use public transit
· Assist with budgeting and meal planning for the week which may include making a grocery list and meal prep
· Observe conditions related to the living environment and vehicle and assist with arranging repairs and maintenance as needed
· Explore the person’s interests which also includes participating in activities that align with the person’s interests.
· Communicate with family respectively and thoughtfully as needed
Qualifications/Requirements
· Acknowledges and respects the person’s autonomy
· Can facilitate, coach, advocate (if needed) and promote the voice of the person
· Is energetic, ‘fully present’ and possesses a positive attitude
· Takes a ‘doing with’, not ‘doing for’ approach to support
· Is well organized and a compassionate communicator
· Has reliable transportation to work in individual's home and is comfortable with a dog in the home
· Is respectful in the person’s home and practises appropriate interpersonal boundaries
· Has a successful criminal record check
· First Aid and CPR is an asset
· Experience in a supportive or caregiving role that emphasizes patience, empathy, and active listening is beneficial
